You are an outlier .
That’s not a bad thing, it’s actually a really good thing for you.. congrats, seriously .. but youre an outlier, not so much on this board, where everyone is just below Musk in terms of net worth and everyone is married to an OT 12.. but in terms of raw numbers in the US amongst Gen X, Millenials and younger- most will never retire .

How much did you save up?

Lack of opportunities isnt what holds most Americans back it it their rampant over consumption and poor life choices.
This is a (typical) oversimplification.. it ignores the fact that many of us may have been cleaned out in a divorce (or two) or that many of us may have started a business (or two) that ultimately didn’t succeed .. ‘poor life choices’, i know.. god forbid that any of us take a chance on love or business success .. but you do you, pal .

you must live a miserable life...
So do you want boomer's to keep working so they continually pay into the systems?
Or do you want them to retire so younger workers can advance?
Or just die?
I suspect the latter...

Don’t fall for that.
Every site has a “market maker”, an alter who plays the counter culture role, is a lesbian on house arrest, and / or a broke day trader.
Suspect all 3 and, ironically, upper limit Gen X’er here - looking over generational threshold with much bitterness and conjugal want. Everyone needs to belong.
The Smiths said so.

I'm close. The government says that I reach "full retirement age" in May. Who am I to argue with the government?
I realize youre probably just being sarcastic.. but unfortunately many people actually think this way .
I dont have all the answers.. im not retired yet, and im learning along the journey as i go.. but if yall take nothing else from this thread, please realize that RETIREMENT IS NOT AN AGE.. RETIREMENT IS A FINANCIAL NUMBER ….. and that number is different for everyone … dont let anyone tell you that ‘65 is the retirement age’ or ‘full retirement is 70’ or any of that hogwash.. yes, those are the rough ages at which you can collect SS.. but yall dont need me to tell you that if youre dependent upon SS for retirement, youre doing it all wrong.
Bottom line- if you hit *your* number at 35, then you cna retire at 35.. or 48 .. or whichever age YOU choose .. for me, ill be retiring in South America or in Asia, so my number will be lower than if i was retiring in the US.. but you gotta decide that for yourself .

Almost 7 and 1/2 years around this place and less than 20 posts? Most of us post on TD to kill time at work. They must have been working your arse off. Did they chain you up in the basement during your off hours? Holy shite
Just kidding...Congrats on the successful career and hope you get to do everything you have been wanting to do in retirement.

But why?
My parents were old enough to have lots of the lessons from The Great Depression impressed on them and I picked up a few. What a great gift to leave for your kids - a little security.

Congratulations. I retired about 8 months ago and it’s even better than I had imagined. The stress left instantly and I feel much better physically and mentally. I’ve never been so relaxed in my entire life.
Enjoy!
Enjoy!

I hate to brag but I have 240 bucks in my savings account. I should be able to retire somewhere around the beginning of the 31st century

Most refer to it as a “sense of humor “. Look into it. You might need one someday. BTW, is this your first day here? Welcome, my friend! Enjoy your stay! You won’t be here long with thin skin.
