Post this in the trucker thread, but a lot of retiree's are now getting their CDL and driving trucks, couples doing it. You get paid, work when you want, and travel the country.
I mean, doesn't sound all that bad to me.

I'm not sure if i'll ever be able to stop working even though I should be in decent shape before my retirement years. I just dont see myself being able to enjoy life if I'm not being productive in some way.

Retiring at 50
Good luck with healthcare. I'm not meaning to be negative, I just know of several people retired early and struggled with health insurance.

Then what...shuffle board at the Senior Center?

That's rather depressing to think I have 17 years left to work

I am retiring at 55. Completely debt free right now. I can not wait. If some of my investments will perform a little better I will retire at 50.

I'm 45 and aiming to hang it up in 5 years. I should have my debt paid off and the kids will be on their own. The next 10 years should be my highest earning years, but I'm burnt out. Has anyone walked away from a decent salary and retired early?
What is your plan for insurance? That's what usually keeps people working.

Retired in January at 54. Life is good

retired from the military at 49. Did 30 years. I got an easy job to supplement and keep busy. When my daughter graduates in 3 years, I may consider not working at all.
Even though I did 23 years (17 active), I won’t be able to retire until 58. Between that pension, VA disability, and my small state job pension, that’s when I’m calling it quits.

Yeah we are just waiting on the empty nest which should be just a few years away but no way I'll retire any time soon.

Our friends up here are retired and golf every day. We work when they golf so it works out.

In the same boat. 45 now and managing people and their problems is not for me. My plan is not to retire at 50, but step back into a senior type role, make a decent salary, and just do my job without being responsible for others. Hell I could do that now, but is hard to walk away from a fat salary and bonus structure even if miserable.

The good thing is that we had kids relatively young. The bad thing is that we didn't save much at that age because we were young and relatively broke because of the kids

That's a critical one. Ask the 50 year old with a 5 year old if he wishes he had the kid 15 years sooner.
Did that 50 year old take care of himself enough to maintain his energy levels past mid-life or is that 50 year old getting sloppy with a beer gut and tired all the time?
I will never tell my kids to start a family as quick as possible. My friends that did that missed out on prime years of their lives because they thought they had grow up as fast as possible.

My goal is 55, still 16 years away but i feel good about my savings and plan.

Probably for the best since their father can't comprehend all that it means. I'm not telling my kids to knock someone up or get knocked up at 15. The word possible clearly means something way different to you than it does to me.

I did. I was burnt out. Now I fish and tend to cattle.

You may need to ensure that you can draw on saved amounts at 50.
For example, 401k assets, you would pay a penalty for early withdrawals
