Who says that to a girl?
Its only an insult to a guy, which should have zero effect on a girls self esteem
Because if they dont recognize that guys can run faster and throw harder, then self esteem is the least of their worries

People are understandably tired of the constant pontificating message that has become thematic for many NFL commercials this year.
Kinda bizarre that this has to be pointed out, but there is a host of factors that lead to issues with self image and confidence in girls in adolescence. Boys making fun of other boys for running like girls is generally not one of them.
Predictably, people on this site were irritated by it, since it's part of a larger theme this year in NFL commercials. Also predictably, tools trying to be edgy came on here to say "hey look at the macho men on here that are insecure."

The effort to boost young girls' selfconfidence is laudable and probably needed but boys and girls are different and this is noticeable at a very young age. The makers of the ad want to pretend these differences are social constructs. Pretending rarely accomplishes your goal.

All of this.

Their point is less about the differences and more about what we tell our girls, they just chose something bad to point out IMO. There are obviously physical differences in boys and girls that make boys superior athletically. But there are also social constructs at play.
For example, my dad, myself, and my sister's husband were going fishing a few months ago. My nephew and niece, who are 7 and 5, wanted to come along with us. The night before, my mom called me up and asked me if she thought about my niece coming with us. I thought "why not?" because my niece has no problems getting in the dirt or playing rough, and my nephew is the really shy and quiet indoorsy type. But then my mom said that my sister and her husband told my niece that fishing is for boys and the boys were going to go and she can stay at home with mom.
I didn't say anything because I felt she was too young and wouldn't have the patience to fish on a boat for several hours. But why bring up gender? I think she would really enjoy fishing if she were older, so why say something like that?
I remember people in my family saying that as well as hearing it on the playground when I was a kid. I never did understand it, even back then. As a kid I liked girls who were into boy stuff (i.e. the same stuff I'm into). Why be that way these days?

On one regard, girls kind of have it a little easier. They aren't expected to be great athletes, that's kind of a burden off.
I have a 10 month old daughter, and I liked the commercial.

Being a human being isn't easy. I can't stand commercials like this. Life's fricking hard, we get it. No need to make a commercial bitching like a girl

The effort to boost young girls' selfconfidence with a stupid commercial is pointless because if any girl's self-confidence is boosted with a 1 minute commercial, it won't last long

SB commercials used to be focused on using humor or celebrities as a way to promote a product. Recently, it trendy to make your commercials emotive, focusing on how a cause or company impacts your life or makes you think, e.g., McDonald's, Nissan, etc.
I viewed "run like a girl" as another in a growing line of forgettable commercials from this genre.

The ultimate irony being that the commercial was aired at the Super Bowl - an event featuring some of most elite athletes in the country none of which are female.

Not ironic if you want that message to reach the largest audience.

"You know why? Because the media makes them feel feel inadequate."Because if you're not pretty and skinny and look like and have a life like those Disney Channel teen princesses, you're not good enough. So buy our products!
You are 100% correct. Must be thin, pretty, rich dating or married to a metrosexual who puts you on a pedestal, have three beautiful children and an A list job or you are not a successful woman. If you lack any of these attributes we have products that will allow you to instantly obtain them such as wrinkle cream, fake boobs, hair color, on line education, on line dating, personal diet coaches blah blah blah. I felt like I was being trolled the whole night by the media and the NFL. America hates Caucasian, working, taxpaying men and the media feeds this by portraying them as bullies who say you throw or run like a girl and jap slap women in elevators and rape them at sorority houses. Corndog Katie, Stinky Kravitz (Ive been up close and he needs a bath) and whoever the rap girl was can kiss it. Why cant it just be a football game?

The commercial was just silly, especially for a pad commercial, but I get what they were trying to do.
Me and the gf did get a good laugh when they finally showed a few girls "throwing like a girl", and they threw exactly how you would picture "throwing like a girl" to look like

As the father of 3 daughters, I thought it was cool. One was an all-state XC runner, so the "run like a girl" concept was humorous. Grrl runs better than me, though I can still beat her in a 50 yd dash.

Maybe if they had Kate Upton running "like a girl" with her hoots jumping up & down, it may have had a better impact.
