And it's not just one ransom note. Apparently there were 3 in total from what I've read.

TMZ got one
the local news affiliate got one
Forgot who got the other.....and they were all sent by email

FBI said that the ransom notes outside of the one where they arrested a piece of shite for faking it are all the same and have the 5pm deadline today with a follow up deadline on Monday, along with info that lends to them being real (apple watch, soemthing about a flashlight, and then I think nightgown)

Yea apparently they were very specific in their note......which would make sense. Aren't they only asking $50K for her release? This is some third world stuff.

No, 1m in Bitcoin is what I've heard.

Ahh ok. I may have read some random twitter post saying that.

They should pay the 1M but only after proof of life.

This is going to go the way of the Idaho murders. There's going to be a glimpse of a car thats going to lead them down a path.

She disappeared somewhere between 1 and 3 am due to the security camera, pace maker, etc... Going to be very few cars on the road at that time and even though rural, a security camera somewhere is going to have the glimpse.

Agreed but one thing that has stuck out to me.

If there were in fact 8 perimeter cameras, you took the time and spent the money to put up so many, yet were not with a subscription to record.

Hmmmm.

Savannah makes $8 million every year.

The reward is $50,000 and the abductor(s) demand is reportedly only $1M, and they're not immediately providing it? If I made $8 million a year and someone takes my mom then demands a million dollars for her return, I'm forking it over immediately.

Yea, yea, yea, I get it. FBI is probably advising against it, but frick it. That's my mom.

I think $50K is the reward being offered

100%

I wonder if there has ever been a case where the FBI has helped the family negotiate the release even though they know they would never catch the perps.

How is it possible that crypto accounts are so completely untraceable? That's insane to me. Can't they at least see when the wallet address or whatever the frick it's called was created, then start looking at everyone who opened their account at that time?

The kidnappers aren't the brightest, because they didn't outline any means for the family/feds to communicate to them... Having said that, the only way this would even potentially be successful for those individuals is if they took her across the border.

If they did get paid, there is no way for them to release her and not leave some sort of trail here in the US.

Definitely in cases where hackers have stolen intellectual property/business related materials.

I know of a few.

But no way they're allowing a kidnapped human life to be ransomed on their watch. Just think of the consequences.

It would become commonplace.

Some blockchains are completely untraceable, like Monero.

Even if they weren't, wallets aren't tied to your identity. You don't need to provide your personal info to make one.

Well that's obviously ridiculous and needs to be changed going forward.

Well, because it’s probably most likely you’d be out $1 million dollars and still not have your mom for about of reasons.

They can just kill her anyways, they will ask for more after receiving the first $1M, etc. You aren’t dealing with ethical honest people that are easy to do a business transaction with

A former employee (who was also my brother) of mine got a virus on his computer that put a padlock on every file The hacker stated he wanted 250K to release the files and I told him to FO b/c we had a clean backup from the day prior.

Formatted the drive, reinstalled the previous days backup and went on our way. The required method to contact them was some online chat program where I told them we were sending the money ASAP

Agreed, but the family doesn't necessarily need the FBI to negotiate her release. It's a shite sandwich however you cut it.
