New update:

quote:

A California man is facing criminal charges after allegedly demanding bitcoin payments from the family of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, who disappeared Sunday in Tucson, Arizona.

Derrick Callella, 42, of Hawthorne, California, is charged with transmitting a ransom demand related to a kidnapped person, and anonymous interstate communications intended to harass or threaten.

This same guy was arrested in October 2025 for stealing $9,984 in unemployement benefits. He was employed as a Department of Health Services Intermediate Clerk. Well Well Well......

doesn't make much sense to give 2 different deadlines unless its pay 1m by 5pm today and if not, its 2m by Monday and after that, she's done.

I assume that’s what it is. Only thing that makes sense.

That’s what I thought at first. Not so sure now.

quote:

They sent demand letters without any line of comm set up.

The more communication, the more chance they have of it being traced. It could mean they’re really smart. If they truly mean what they say, (1 million by 5 Thursday or 2 million by 5 Monday or she dies at 5:01), why would they want/need anymore communication?

They said in the presser today it was an uber that brought her home.

Negative. They said a family member brought her home, but wouldn't say which family member, which was kind of odd.

For the exact reason they are in... They need to prove that she is alive and theres no way for the family/feds to do the communication behind the scenes, thus we get the instagram post yesterday.

And it's not just one ransom note. Apparently there were 3 in total from what I've read.

The random notes are just a distraction to buy time because they killed her and they don’t know what to do.

Why even send them then? Makes 0 sense to create any sort of additional trail if she was already dead.

Someone does work at the house. She brags about how successful her daughter is. They comeback to kidnap her. She has a heart attack and drops dead. They bury her in the desert. They still make the ransom demand.

This is Lindbergh baby just with an elderly person.

Savannah makes $8 million every year. The reward is $50,000 and the abductor(s) demand is reportedly only $1M, and they're not immediately providing it?

I love how everybody counts her money. You have no idea what she has or doesn’t have. She may spend 9 million per year. You don’t know.

And you aren’t paying a ransom once the FBI is involved. You can forget it. Plus, granny is dead and buried in the desert somewhere anyway. And they probably know that.

How is it possible that crypto accounts are so completely untraceable? That's insane to me.

They’re traceable. You aren’t getting a ransom in bitcoin and getting away with it.

Well that's obviously ridiculous and needs to be changed going forward.

Thank God you aren’t in charge. You don’t value privacy? One kidnapping of someone you don’t know and you want to pass a second Patriot Act. fricks sake some people are so stupid!

Oh give me a break. If you make $8 mil a year you could loan $1mil. That’s like someone that makes $100k getting a $15 k loan. It’s not like she is a 22 year old WR, she’s been making good money for a long arse time.

If she makes $8 mil a year and can’t scratch up $1 mil for her mom, imo that makes her a suspect.

Needless to say, this is a weird case

Either this or an associate of the family or even member of the family.

You can send the funds through a mixer or dump them into Monero and you're completely untraceable.

These guys aren't dumb enough to offramp the ransom money on a centralized exchange.

With Monero, you'd still have to be very disciplined moving the Monero from from the original wallet to different wallets over a good period of time in small amounts, then doing the same thing when using defi to swap and using many different offramps to not have sketchy Bitcoin or whatever coin flagged.

Trying to dump $5 million worth of potentially tainted Bitcoin into Coinbase would not be a good idea.

I’m still quite curious why the sheriff let it leak that the son in law was a suspect? No way the media would make that up due to liability if they were wrong.

Anyone know how the media came up with that idea and what would the sheriff’s motivation be if so? He’s not in custody or even being mentioned anymore.

Haven’t seen it out there that he let it leak

I know he wouldn’t confirm who dropped her off that night, but if it was him, there’s no way the other daughter doesn’t know something up. He would have had to leave the house for 2hrs from 1-3am.

Unless, he has help and he just coordinated it.
