I know times have changed and today if they don't close school and something happens there will be lawsuits, etc.
But I remember when I was in high school one year. There was a hurricane, I don't remember what the deal was. If it moved closer and we got worse weather than expected or what, but we went to school and it was storming.. We are in first hour and they tell us "classes have been canceled for today. For those who have transportation to leave may do so now, otherwise school busses will be available as soon as possible" (im paraphrasing)..
But no one thought "hey tomorrow there is supposed to be some bad weather. You think we will have school?"

Based on the latest weather forecasts and guidance from state and local agencies, the East Baton Rouge Parish School System will dismiss early on Tuesday, March 22.
All high schools and middle schools will dismiss at 11:45 a.m.; elementary schools will dismiss at 12:45 p.m. After-school activities will also be canceled or postponed.

Public schools doing work
Last time they did this, it was only for like 1 hour. I don't see the point either.
