Crime has not engulfed Baton Rouge. This is a stupid statement. Go look at the zip codes where crimes occur and you’ll realize it’s not near nice areas. It occurs in North Baton Rouge, which 65% of the Baton Rouge population never even travels to or visits. The lone exception are people going to Tony’s Seafood, otherwise, no one goes there.
Crime in St. George is nonexistent. Go cry in your pillow you Old miss bitch boy.

He attempted a huge shift in taxes which would have allowed him to put money toward public safety and infrastructure, but it was voted down. This tax was backed by everyone, but the voters.
Broom signed a ton of contracts that he got stuck with.
Cant expect much if you aren’t willing to back him when he asks for something.

There are two ways of looking at yesterday. Yes, there was a situation at the bank (first reported as robbery, then said to be a fraudulent check) on Jefferson. However, the police responded quickly, which prompted the suspects to shoot each other when apparently attempting to shoot the policeman. I'd be more concerned if they were robbing the bank, shooting people, and getting away with it.
ETA: So the updated news reports states the suspect shot his counterpart while trying to hide the gun. What I wrote above was what I heard yesterday from someone. The responding officer may not have known initially whether the suspect was attempting to target him or if the suspect accidentally shot himself. Either way, sounds like the police responded quickly.

He needs to be looking at other comparable-sized cities in the south, like Birmingham, Mobile, Columbia, etc.
Their crime stats have plummeted since taking office.

pardon me if I don't take solace in their incompetence. I find the thought of these two retards being brazen enough to shoot at police officers to be more concerning then trying to rob the bank. And while no policy will completely control an individuals behavior, you can make them think twice about it by having a policy that treats such actions very harshly. Nothing the criminal justice system in BR does seems to be harsh towards the criminals.

BATON ROUGE — A shooting outside of the Gulf Coast Bank and Trust Company on Jefferson Hwy. in the Towne Center area of Baton Rouge is under investigation.
It was around 2 p.m. when a Baton Rouge Police officer responded to a call for a suspicious incident at the bank in Towne Center. Upon arrival, when the officer approached the vehicle in question, the officer heard a gunshot. Two people inside that vehicle fled the area, with a search underway for them now. A third person was found inside the vehicle, shot once to the stomach. That person was transported to a hospital. Their condition is unknown.
At this hour, officers along with assisting agencies are searching for the two suspects who fled the scene. People in the area may see a helicopter as well as K9 units assisting in the search. The two people are described as a white woman with long, blonde hair wearing black tights and a white man last seen wearing a gray hoodie.
No further details have been released at this time.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of the two suspects or details about the incident, you’re asked to call Crime Stoppers at 344-STOP.
That sounds like it was pretty meth'd up.

There are always two paths in these situations:
A) Aggressively arrest, prosecute and incarcerate the young men who are responsible for 90% of the crime while incentivizing businesses and more productive home owners to revitalize the area in question within a short period of years.
B) Bow to claims of racism and abandon the area from a judicial standpoint and watch as productive citizens leave and the area descends into a state of lawlessness, crippling poverty, broken schools and intractable corruption.
It’s very easy to see what path a city is on.
It’s even easy to tell how far a city has slid based on the extent to which the productive residents accept and support outside investment vs non-productive residents fighting it as it would impact whatever hustle they’ve setup that would be exposed and eliminated in a well run area and the degree with which they positively identify with the failed cultural values of the failed city.

I know it will take a while to undo the damage that Broome has done, but has he done one single positive thing since being sworn into office? This is a huge opportunity for Republican leadership in the city/parish, and it looks like he's squandering it. He doesn't need to be going to Detroit. He needs to be looking at other comparable-sized cities in the south, like Birmingham, Mobile, Columbia, etc.
Mobile has a low homicide rate compared to similar cities, but property crimes aren't lower than Baton Rouge. They are actually higher.

well, that's much better. Seriously. If we get to the point where law enforcement is so disrespected that people will just freely take shots at them, we've crossed a pretty big bridge.

BATON ROUGE — Baton Rouge Police have identified a suspect arrested in connection with a Monday afternoon check fraud investigation that left one injured near a bank at the corner of Jefferson Highway and Thibodeaux Avenue.
Dorsay Jones, 36, was arrested after a man and a woman went inside the Gulf Coast Bank and attempted to cash a fraudulent check worth around $1,800 around 1 p.m. The bank teller became suspicious and requested additional information from them. After the teller confirmed the check was fraudulent, police were notified.
According to police, several people were in a vehicle outside the bank when officers began to arrive at the scene, during which a gunshot was fired inside the car. Police said they later learned that one of the people, later identified as Jones, accidentally shot himself while attempting to hide the gun from officers.
Jones was taken to the hospital for treatment for the gunshot wound, and upon his release, he was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on forgery and monetary instrument abuse charges.
Police also found a large quantity of Schedule II drugs in Jones' possession, a spokesperson added.
According to court records, Jones has a criminal record including multiple drug convictions, as well as DUI and domestic abuse battery convictions. He most recently served two months in 2024 for a DUI.
Two other people, a white man and a white woman, ran from the scene. Police are still searching for them.
