CX 50. I've been driving Mazda since 2012 without any major issues. The newer ones are much nicer.

I’ve owned both (well CX-5, not 50). Idk if the CX-50 has a larger tank but my GMC could go way longer without having to fill the tank. Love my Mazda but it took a little while to get used to it; you feel like you are sitting on the front of the car.
Also safety consideration: I got into a very serious accident in the Terrain (other driver ran a red light). The car was totaled and I was completely uninjured. I’m comfortable saying it’s a very safe car.

We bought our daughter a slightly used CX-30 for her first car. It’s been great with no issues.

Thought about including the KIA Seltos into the mix due to the low price, but it still seems like a garbage brand to me
You're wrong on this, completely, plus it would be in your price range and hello, 10yr/100k mi warranty.
And I've even heard some dealerships offer lifetime warranties under certain parameters.

Our daughter has a 2016 RAV and still loves it. Think it’s maybe got 120k or so? She’s driving it until it dies so she says.

Thanks for all of the responses.
Of course I’ve been reading stuff on the internet, but a lot of that is tied into who gets paid to write stuff.
I’m removing the GMC and adding the Honda HR-V.
Now the Mazda CX-5.
Will consider the Kia Sportage a little

Out of those 2 I would get the Mazda. Have you looked at a Hyundai Tuscon? We've had 3 Hyundai's with zero issues.

Usually a sportier sedan driver but bought a cx50 as a short term daily driver with a kid - it’s been ultra reliable and handles Nola roads

I don’t know anything about the Mazda but every online, YouTube, tik tok mechanic advise against the gmc terrain and its sister cars with the same engine.

2018 Terrain driver here…134,000+ miles, 1.5 turbo engine, still getting over 30 MPG…I vote Terrain.

The CX-50 is the best unpopular car

Bought my daughter a CX 50, it is awesome to drive, only negative I have is the car play takes a little getting used to.
Very tight, and responsive steering.

We have a new CX-50 but test drove it and the CX-5. Opted for the 50 because it is sportier, faster and has more features. Both cars are fine and if buying for a daughter I would go with the 5. To add, there are low mileage used CX-5's, honda and yota's to be had if budget is of concern.

Cx5 can be had for a steal now. It is redesigned for 2026 so dealers are moving 2025 fast as they can. Has 2.5 engine with actual transmission, and AWD
Id stay far from anything GM
Edit: we got a CX 5 Carbon for 29.5 fully loaded, non turbo. Burleson Mazda, two months ago

Interesting.
The local Mazda dealership website is showing 91 of them in inventory for 25 and 26. In thinking their website has a glitch because that doesn’t seem realistic.
