UPS. FedEx is so bad if a merchant doesn't offer an alternative, I buy elsewhere

Same here. Almost every high dollar item I have shipped with FedEx gets stolen at the hub on Siegen. It will say Out For Delivery and then never get updated again

The delivery services are like cellphone service. Use the one that works best in your area.

The big issue with FedEx is that some of its delivery network is based on a franchise system where local owners can purchase routes and they buy the trucks and hire the workers. It helps in a way with shielding FedEx some legal liability if a worker drives a truck into someone’s house as the driver isn’t a FedEx employee nor a truck owned by FedEx, but a third party LLC.

UPS on the other hand owns the trucks and hires its own drivers some of whom are members of the Teamsters Union.

This is it, 100%. It's because of the shitty performance of some ISPs (Independent Service Providers - the trucks that would say FedEx Ground, as opposed to FedEx Express which were FedEx employees) that FedEx implemented their Network 2.0 plan (which is part of their larger DRIVE plan) which pretty much cancels contracts in poor-performing CSAs (Contracted Service Areas).

The only good thing I can say about fed ex is they suck so bad around here, I’ll often get the same product twice. The shipper sends out a replacement because it’s assumed lost and weeks later the original shows up. There’s a sorting center in Olive, MS that must be a total shite show because I’ve had a ton of packages never make it out of there, it’s weird.

I also had one straight up steal a pool vacuum from me, they claimed was delivered. I had cameras show no one ever showed up that day, then the moron lists it for sale on the FB marketplace…occupation: Fed Ex package manager. Despite all of this Fed Ex didn’t care, said I should contact local law enforcement. Luckily, AMEX refunded me

A couple of times I have had the Fedex driver show up in a Penske rental truck.

Is that normal?

I was about to post that these are just individual people working for the companies and it doesn’t reflect the average delivery driver.

Except our UPS guy greets my wife by her name (I know her name is on her packages) and talks to her through our security camera. Even says he hopes her pregnancy is going well.

Wait….is that why my kids look half black?!?

UPS puts deliveries on my side porch out of sight most of the time. FedEx throws them on the front porch with a few exceptions which are probably drivers who have delivered here before.

FedEx lost my insurance check after hurricane Laura...twice!! Which put me way behind because contractors were booked up already.

UPS is by far the best carrier.

Yep. That is a independent contractor that has a contract with FedEx to deliver packages. I rarely ever see the actual FedEx van pull up to my house anymore. It is usually a rental truck or van.

My dad tried owning a FedEx route in Lafayette back in the 90’s after getting laid off in the oilfield. It wasn't a pleasant experience. He was basically paying $15k a year to rent a job that paid $70k a year where he had to work 60 hours a week and had to constantly fix vehicles.

My brother owned a FED EX route in Alabama for a while.

It's one of the most blaring examples of corporate penny pinching creating bad service. In what I suppose sounded great to an insulated CEO and shareholders, the route owners are pushed to the limit to not lose money.

So, they're often desperate to just get rid of packages like hot potatoes.

I ship/receive a lot with my business. USPS has issues but is still the best for small businesses, UPS is OK but I avoid FED EX like the plague.

I often pay a little more to find a suppliers that use USPS or UPS instead of FED EX.

Most recent absurd FED EX example: FED EX package was "hidden" behind trash cans right out on a crowded public sidewalk in Brooklyn-- and just to avoid walking an extra 25 feet to my shop which was open at the time!
I really don't even consider it "theft" that it the package was emptied out by the time I got the emailed notification since he literally left it in the trash.
