It sent my battery life into the abyss. Definitely agree with many that it’s intentional.

Planned obsolescence.
Phone updates are made to eventually make you get a new one
Been that way for a few years now at least

Yep, it sucks and wished id listened to the tech board before I updated.
Whats worse is I drive 30min on the interstate daily and my phone works fine except for a 5 mile stretch of road in the morning, every morning. In that area, everything about my phone moves like molassas (so signal is irrelevant). opening apps is slow, typing slow, etc.
It only happens on that 5mile stretch and only in the mornings
TLDR - it sucks
EDIT:
Also this

I’m convinced these updates are designed to frick up older phones so that you think it’s dying and will buy a new one.
Google the term “planned obsolescence”.
You’re right.

My phone is slow too, but it's a XR. But it slows down even more when storage gets full. So check that out. Sometimes it's good to completely start fresh on a phone if you've been using it for a while.

The only thing I don’t like is it takes two clicks to get to your tabs in safari. I also realize you can pinch the screen to accomplish the same thing, but it’s hard to do with one hand.
If you swipe the bubble with the address, it will move between your tabs. If you swipe left on your last one, it will open a new one.

I hated the glass bubbles and found that this helps out a bunch.
After 26.1 (I think) you can first try to select the tinted glass setting under Settings / Display & Brightness / Liquid Glass. If not enough then use the reduce transparency and also try turning on the “Increase Contrast” setting right under the Reduce transparency setting in Accessibility / Display & Text settings.
The reduce transparency and the increase contrast affect more than what’s normal considered the Liquid Glass items or buttons. In the past when any transparency added to iOS GUI reducing transparency could also help limit older devices getting bogged down when the transparency in GUI is too much for their chips or ram. Since iOS 7’s “clean” or minimalistic look went too far for me I always turn on the “increase contrast” accessibility setting.
Another option is the “Show Borders” setting also under Accessibility / Display & Text settings which adds a small border around buttons or floating menus if they are difficult to distinguish from background.
After adjusting the looks of iOS 26 to what looks best to you if any individual app looks bad with those accessibility settings you can go to Settings / Accessibility / Per-App Settings and then add the app or apps to then adjust the accessibility settings individually for each app chosen.
The problem is if you switch from dark mode or light mode a lot or automatically as the above changes don’t always help with the looks in the same way between those modes. Subjectively you might find that what helped in one can look bad in the other or vice versa.
This is what you get when your software team’s only idea for innovation for the new iOS is to convert an iOS look meant for a visual interface with those ski goggle looking Vision Pros to a touch screen interface devices.

Pretty much every company does this now.. Phones, appliances, electronics... Planned obsolescence.
Yep. Phones made 10 years ago should still be sufficiently powerful to run the latest Android, but companies drop software support so you’ll buy new ones. You can root it and install s third party android but that does you no good because of the app store duopoly between Apple and Google. So we end up with perfectly good equipment going to yet more landfills.

I don't like the update so far. I'll get used to it I guess.

Have you tried putting your phone in a bag with some rice?

I’m holding out on this update as well.

I turned off autoupdate before the one that the beta users were complaining sapped battery. 16 pro. Doesn’t sound like I’m missing it, Bob.

Found the a-hole always on his phone while driving. Pay attention!

The updates are always for stuff I never use or don’t care about and always at the very end it’ll say “enhanced security features” but doesn’t tell you what those are. So I never do the updates.
On the security updates they usually provide a link or have a set website that goes over security fixes and who notified them. When they do this it pushes out down towards less sophisticated coders what they issues and touches on how to exploit it. The group that found also usually them pushes out even more details on it after waiting for Apple’s fix which makes installing the security updates even more important.
At some point Apple stops updating security for devices using previous iOS versions that are capable of installing the current iOS(26) to then receive all the security fixes (still updates security on devices that couldn’t upgrade to current iOS).
If still on iOS 18 while using a newer iOS 26 capable device someone has found a way to get the recent security updates while staying on 18. Not sure how long it will work, but it could at least install the security fixes in 18 without upgrading to iOS 26 for now. It’s below with link, but it’s basically turning on iOS 18 public beta. Just make sure to select 18 public beta as 26 options will be there as well on 26 capable devices.
quote:
If you have an ?iPhone? 11 or later, Apple is no longer offering new versions of iOS 18, even though there was a security update that came out alongside iOS 26.2. Apple stopped showing new iOS 18 updates when iOS 26.2 launched, forcing iOS 18 users to upgrade to iOS 26.2 if they want to keep their devices secure.
For now, there's a way to stay on iOS 18 and continue to get security updates. On a device running iOS 18, you can turn on iOS 18 public beta updates to force new versions of iOS 18 to show up. This may not remain an option for long, but it works at the current time.
Apple's move to push users to ?iOS 26? is timed with a long list of security updates introduced in iOS 26.2 and iOS 18.7.3, including a WebKit vulnerability known to be actively exploited. Both updates addressed the problem...
