I asked how many total individual humans, and how many of those humans appeared to be gay.

Like 75% of them to me but that's just where we are now

more than the % of gays in the population but not as overrepresented as interracial couples or black people in general

I got caught up watching Joe Dirt on MTV tonight. They bleeped the words queer and homo in two scenes.

The most vulgar, gruesome, and inappropriate scenes are allowed on tv, but THIS is what they censor?

Well that will never happen because I don’t have kids.

And by the way, I don’t hate gays. I’m actually a supporter of gay marriage. I’m just sick of the pandering and over representation of gays on television.

Dipshit, do you realize you’re being a homophobe by accusing someone of being gay?

Am I supposed to be insulted by you accusing me of being gay?

Exactly.

These fricking ad agencies need to be reined in.

Gay, trans, mixed couples would be like 25x overrepresented than in reality

When are Logo TV and other gay or lesbian focused programming like soccer going to overrepresent straight people, couples, and sex to same extent in their programming and advertising???

Not even close. Off by at least a factor of 10.

Ok, now you're just intentionally avoiding the question

I watch very little TV these days, so I certainly don't claim to be an expert. But I have a sneaking suspicion that some observation biases are in play here. Now, that's not to say that I don't think gay people, or black people, or whatever, aren't over-represented in advertisements; I think they likely are. I just don't think they are over-represented by nearly the factor this board seems to think they are.

I framed the question like I did because I think the average person would vastly underestimate the number of commercials they watch, and the number of unique individuals in those commercials. And because of that, and because of the fact that they keenly remember any commercial that upsets them (by including gay people), they are over-estimating the percentage of commercials that have gay people because they are under-estimating the number of total people in the commercials they watch.

I don't care enough about the subject to do a deep dive, but I did a quick google search regarding the kind of TV I do still watch: live sports. This article is old, but I found it interesting: LINK

BCS title games, and March Madness basketball games, probably have more commercials than the average game, but considering this was from years and years ago, I imagine the average game commercial count has crept up to this point, at minimum.

Well over a hundred commercials in a football game. Just over a hundred commercials in a basketball game. Now, are there repeat commercials? Of course. And some commercials don't even contain a single human. But some contain a half dozen or more. So we're easily talking dozens, if not well over a hundred, individual unique humans in commercials in a single sporting event.

Estimates beyond this point would obviously be utterly skewed, but I was anticipating people to estimate the number of unique humans in commercials they saw in a month to be a few dozen, instead of the likely several hundred or more that it is in reality.

Because no, 75% of the people you see in commercials definitely aren't gay

If a person not from this sick fricking nation were watching television, they’d think that half of this country is gay, trans, or interracial.

Almost twenty percent of relationships are interracial relationships. They also have nothing to do with gay or trans, so maybe stop lumping them all together like a retard.

Maybe so. Maybe half of TV couples are gay and 25% trans, but it's not reality.
