curse words? it's 2015 dude. I doubt your'e going to burn in hell for using a curse word, let alone hearing one.
I know you young redditards love cursing in front of kids and trying to "liberate your minds from the conservatives," but cursing in front of a 6 year old is not admirable or appropriate.

I guess I'll never understand.
I grew up in an Italian Catholic family.
So words like frick were thrown around kids with complete disregard.

During middle school hoops practice, my coach called me a fricking punk and told me that he was going to bury me in his backyard and plant an oak tree in my a-hole if I didn't stop fricking around in the weight room.
I dropped a double-double the next game and he bought me ice cream.

Sorry, 16 years of Roman Catholic education is tough to get over.

oly frick... this is what's wrong with America. If you have a problem with it, tell it to him, to his face.
Or send him a tweet.
This. OP needs to have a friendly talk and just say something along the lines of, "I know sometimes coaching can be frustrating, but please watch your language around the kids."
Any normal human being who isn't a meat head should apologize and say he will try to do better.
If he doesn't respond well or continues, then go up the chain.

I have heard priests, nuns, brothers, bishops, etc. curse some of them daily in class. Some using words like frick and the like.
Same here. Never got a GD out of them either and I didn't hear the other cursing until HS.
I coach middle schoolers and while I'm not making them run laps for dropping a four letter word, we have a general rule of keeping it clean.

why is this guy getting so worked up about a 6 year old basketball practice?
seems like a guy that might try to fight a ref if a bad call was made.

It's amazing how many people in here think it's no big deal to yell "God dammit!" in front of 6 year olds. Either they don't have kids, just want to be contrary or are trashy and this is par for their course.

socially acceptable to say frick but not frick
I find "frick" really annoying.
Frankly, I don't really care for the way some people seem to go out of their way to substitute for curse words. They sound so awkward. Just go ahead and say it because it means the same thing to you.

How about you teach your kid what words he shouldn't be using and be adamant about it. Regardless of who else is using those words, that he may not use it, especially in your presence.
Kids will hear bad words. You can't protect them forever. But you can teach them right or wrong when it comes to the verbage they themselves are using.
About time I read the right response. First of all I don't think a few GD's are all that bad, but, it can depend on the context. Is he muttering GD under his breath? Is he directing it at a kid, screaming "GD Johnny, get your head in the game" like that? Is he just screaming GD to the heavens when the kids screw up?
As long as he isn't a ball of hate that is taking it out on the kids a little GD dropped here and there isn't that bad. Like the poster I quoted, use it as an opportunity to talk to your son about good language and bad language. Even at 6, I will guarantee you he has heard worse out on the playground. Probably already knows what a reach around is by now.

He's not worked up about basketball, he's worked up that an adult is cussing openly in front of 6 years olds you moron.
If you and your children were at a hibachi restaurant and the dude sitting next to your kid was like "holy shite this meal is gonna be so fricking good I guarantee I'll be gettin some pussy on my dick tonight!" don't you think you might want to tell that guy to tone it down a notch?

Like id talk to him to his face, but I dont want it to cause a rift on the team and hurt my boy's chances of playing. He's one of the league's leading scorers, and I'd hate for his pt to suffer because I confronted the coach. But I don't want him learning said language so young.

You assume that cursing is bad behavior
In fact it is. Sure, it is considered socially acceptable in some settings, but I doubt you would say "God damn" during a job interview.
