Maybe they’ll declare it Attila the Hun Day.

Is this the beginning of the UFO war? Always thought that would start in Asia.

From a quick reading about the background of this situation, the South Korean President is a member of their conservative party (called “People Power”). The South Korean Democratic Party (classified as “centrist-liberal”) controls the National Assembly and has essentially thwarted everything the President has tried to do. The President is citing some of the Democratic Party’s actions as justification for martial law, even claiming that the South Korean Democratic Party is sympathetic to the North Korean regime. Here are some clips from a Fox News article on the situation:

The liberal Democratic Party has controlled South Korea's single-chamber National Assembly since Yoon, a former top prosecutor, took office in 2022. Those in the opposition have repeatedly thwarted Yoon's agenda and the president has had low approval ratings.
In his address, Yoon cited actions by the Democratic Party as justification for martial law, including an effort this week to impeach some of the country's top prosecutors and the national assembly's rejection of Yoon's proposed budget.
Democratic lawmakers had moved to slash more than 4 trillion won from the Yoon administration's budget proposal. Yoon said the budget cuts would undermine the essential functioning of government administration.
Yoon was handed a blistering political defeat earlier this year when South Korean voters expanded the Democratic Party's majority in the assembly. One South Korean political analyst told the Associated Press the election results rendered Yoon "a dead duck," with even control over his own party at risk following the losses.

I'm watching a (bilingual) Korean streamer now and he's live translating the press conference about it. Basically saying the president was going to be impeached by parliament, so he declared martial law and claimed that the proceedings were being influenced by North Korea. No one really believes the president and he's apparently unlikeable.

Yeah im guessing it’s newly built b/c ive heard many times how nice it is.. I’ve also had stopovers in Singapore a few times, and while the airport there is nothing special, wow are the flight attendants on Singapore Airlines the hottest ive ever seen, by a mile.. er, kilometer .

I’m trying to understand who the good guys are. It appears their Parliament is sympathetic to Kim and is staging a soft coup. Their President seems to be violently opposed to that.
Who are we rooting for? I don’t see how there’s anyway N and S can reconcile and rejoin at this point. They are basically in different centuries.

The President says that the South Korean Democratic Party (which is their liberal party) is sympathetic to Kim and the North Korean regime. That said, South Korea had elections earlier this year and the South Korean Democratic Party retained its majority. Something doesn’t feel right about declaring martial law to stop a duly elected majority party. Is the President claiming they’re sympathetic to Kim because they actually are or because he just doesn’t like that they stonewall him? That seems to be the question of the day.

I’m not going to pretend to know everything about South Korean politics, but from what little I do know about the history and people it would be extremely surprising if one of the major political parties is actually sympathetic to Kim and North Korea
