And Destin down to 30A is still so damn expensive that I can see how people choose Mexico.

All advisories have been lifted for Quintana Roo.
The State dept alert for all of Mexico was out of abundance of caution.
I’m also reading west coast and Puerto Vallarta is back to normal- airport back at full capacity (but Stare dept advisory has not yet been lifted).

Just order your tacos ala cartel and you’ll be fine.

Cartels are going to stupidly try to change policy by affecting tourism. I expect, short term, some bad things will happen to innocent people just trying to relax and have a good time.
For what it’s worth: I heard some guy saying the other day that all the big Mexican resorts are owned snd run by the cartels. The last thing they want is to disrupt tourism or have anyone hurt on their property.

I read that, too. My daughter has been a time or 2. She said when they were in Tulum, drugs were everywhere. They were in an Airbnb in a gated community, but said at the restaurants, they were offered drugs like it was a normal thing. I suggested she find someplace better to vacation.

Cancun is on the complete opposite side of the country from where all the fighting is at. So maybe you would be fine?
Personally, I would seek to cancel if possible, still.

So you just went to a resort, which wasn’t what I asked.

The cartels aren't as predominate in that part of Mexico as others, West and Gulf coasts and border areas. As long as you understand even in Cancun they own the justice and LEO systems through bribes you can't match, and if the shite hits the fan you're fricked, then go. Tourists aren't a target but a bystander, bullets don't care. Be a smart tourist and stay within the resort area.
It's as fricked up as I've seen in the last 30 years. Our company attorney in Mexico City drives a beater subcompact so he won't get kidnapped, just robbed. I've told my family to stay out of Mexico for vacations. Which is sad, the drug business has ruined the country beyond the normal low level bribes (mordida) endemic to their culture when dealing with authorities.

I just heard from an American guy I know who lives full time in Quintana Roo.
He says this is much ado about nothing. He wasn't aware that anything was going on until people back home started calling him to find out if he was OK.
