re: Surprise Dr.'s bill (They got me)

My wife gets bills like that all the time. She is a breast cancer survivor and we get bills from Drs that basically walk around the hospital, read charts and then try and bill for a consultation. They are never in network and not even part of my wife's care team who are all suppose to be in network. We never pay them and they eventually quit billing.
They need to turn DOGE loose on the medical industry.

My favorite is the bill you get and it says insurance pending, you don't owe anything. Then two years later, you get a collection notice for $600 more than the amount they said you didn't owe before. You call the hospital and they say they don't know what the bill is for. Yeah, I'm not paying a bill that you can't tell me what it's for.

Most things in life (especially medically) are scams and the sooner you come to grips with it the sooner you can combat it.

Do they bill you for the lab or the lab bill you directly?

True. Someone coded it wrong. Insurance will kick it out without appropriate diagnosis code. They just need to correct it and resubmit.

My insurance (BCBS) stopped covering same day bloodwork last year.
Well that's bullshite. They are going full retard with Trump in office. As a physician, we aren't notified either when things change in many instances. I haven't gotten a fee schedule in years. It's gotten so complicated and convoluted I'm just about to just go cash only. Too much bullshite to deal with and people don't appreciate what you do behind the scenes to get their shite paid for. More times than not, it the persons insurance and not the doctor. And many times people are too damn lazy to contact their insurer and light a fire under their arse and expect us to do everything for them. Insurers have managed to create a confrontational relationship between physician and patient while they sit back and make bank. The sooner people realize their insurer hates them and really does want them the just pay premiums and die, the sooner they'll start pushing for change.

This happened with my dermatologist, he moved from the hospital to a private clinic. When I went to visit him everything was normal then about a month later I received a bill stating insurance only covered 50% as he was out of network.

Did not Biden/Democrates pass a rule last year that unpaid medical bills could not be shown on credit reports

Kewl, b/c you didn’t explain it, I’m not paying it, nor do I care if you report it to any credit agency as no one cares about unpaid minor medical bills.
My thoughts exactly. I have a hi deductible that is covers 100% of my medical cost after I meet my deductible. Once I meet my deductible all medical bills go in the trash. If they call me I tell them that my insurance company represents me in this matter and they can take it up with them. frick the lazy bastards that won't call insurance to figure out why its not getting paid or the Dr's that think they can charge me above the negotiated rate

Throw those bills straight into the trash. If you never plan to use the lab again, they will not bother trying to collect after a try or two.

My dentist office was being dropped by my dental insurance last year and they told me over and over about it to make sure I was aware
My dentist and my kids' dentist stopped taking our dental insurance a couple of years ago. They still submit the claim on my behalf but then I get the reimbursement check from the insurance company instead of it going directly to them. I guess they get $20 more out of us going this route but what a convoluted system.
Last year after my annual visit they sent me to their lab down the hall. The lab explained that they may be out of network with my insurance so I might get another bill. They also asked for a copay before doing anything. Was weird and I guess they were in network because I never got a bill.

SmackoverHawg is 100% correct. Insurance companies have shifted almost all the liability to the Dr and the patient while they control the game. Evil genius when you think about it and they do.

Did you see the interview on fox a few days ago from the Dad in California? Received a bill for about $600 for ambulance service for his daughter but he noticed it didn't include his insurance. He notified billing and they resent the bill (with insurance the bill was over $1200). It was more expensive for him if he had insurance than it would have been if he didn't have it.

The NSA may be applicable to your case. You’ll have to submit a claim with CMS and have it reviewed to see if it falls under the protections of the act.

You’ll get a random collections notice instead.

This just happened to me, called the endodontics office and they said they never actually mail a bill but send emails. Lo and behold, it ended up in the Junk folder so it never got paid.

Your doctors office fricked up. Let them eat the cost of their own mistake.
Don’t pay. Contest the bill.
