Hard brown sand usually covered in seaweed and dead PMOWs. Water is brown too.

If you go, you should aim for Kappa Beach Party weekend, if it's still a thing.

trashy as hell.
like Grand Isle only bigger and possibly cleaner. Wouldn't waste the effort to drive down there if you want to go to a beach.

The beach itself is terrible, but the town is fine for a weekend. A few good restaurants, couple craft beer bars, decent hotel rooftop bar, Moody Gardens..

You run out of things to do after 3 days though.

Beaches aren’t great but not awful anymore. Decent places to eat imo are The Spot and Tortuga’s. There’s a pretty decent amount of shops too. Moody Gardens is cool and there’s a small Schliterbahn right next to Moody Gardens. It’s what you make it really, Ive always enjoyed going to Galveston just for the weekend.

Slip the beach. Buy a pleasure boat and ride the bay.

Grab a couple frozen mojitos at the spot and then go get buoyant at the Float. Just dont get in the pool.

Galveston is great if you put your back to the water and face shore.

The Strand is cool and small. Other streets have bars and food too. It is a cool old historic city. Drink beer, eat food, and don't look at the water.

Galveston is good man.

Great churches there. We enjoy trying to attend a different place whenever we go.

Smooth Tony's has the best fricking hamburgers anywhere.

Poppa's piZza is good and salsas Mexican is great.

Head West and find a little place to park and mash your nuts and listen to the water. It's all what you make it.

We've been going there for years since our kids are little. The ferry they love. Bring crackers to feed the seasgulls.

As the kids get older I'm sure we will go elsewhere but it will still be a great memory for us and it is an easy trip. Real easy.

i'm guessing it's pretty bad because i know a bunch of people from texas that drive all the way to pensacola, clearly passing up that option

That would be Crystal Beach, across the ferry from Galvatraz.

Actually I like Crystal Beach better even though the beach is just as bad as Galveston. However, less crowds. Everything is new post-Ike, mostly rednecks, a few good restaurants/bars, and super fishing.

Perfect. Got exactly what I was expecting for replies to this. Will be there for the weekend only with family for a quick get together.

I’ll try some of the bars / restaurants y’all suggest and go mash my nuts in the sand a bit and listen to the waves with a cold beer. I’ll tell the preganant redneck in the tube top hello for y’all!

The thing about Galveston is that it’s a beach town an hour away from a town of 2 million people, yet there are still condos available for this weekend, in July.

If it was good, it would be full of people all the time, with plenty of things to do.

It’s less trashy than 95% of Louisiana if that helps
