Prettty sure 65% of the electricity in this region comes from natural gas. So, you'd actually be supporting oil and gas with your electric car.

I got a chuckle out of this past legislative session when they were gung ho about "Consumer Choice" is passing a ban on banning ICE vehicles. But the same meeting when consumer choice related to direct sales came up. "Well, we have to protect the consumer. Buying a vehicle is just too complex to be done without a dealership/agent."
Quote from the moron lawmaker who was opposed to it. From an article at the time.

Rep. C. Travis Johnson, D-Vidalia said he believes electric vehicles are the future but didn’t want to support anything that could harm small businesses. He suggested car dealerships are there to protect car buyers.
“I think it’s about consumer protection as well,” Johnson said. “You don’t buy a house without a real estate agent. You don’t buy an IRA or annuities without a financial adviser, and you don’t buy insurance without an agent.”

Proud Republican and 3 time Trump supporter here driving a Tesla. Don’t forget Tesla is the most American made car being sold if we still care about that. Also, I have no issue with gas/diesel cars being that I’ve owned several and still have a gas SUV, so you should have no issue I drive a Tesla.

When buying and selling are controlled by legislation, the first things to be bought and sold are legislators.

-The most american made vehicle brand
-Lowest cost to own brand over both a 5 and 10 year span
-2000 miles in and I;ve spent a grand total of $37 to get those 2000 miles
-0-60 in 2.9 seconds for under $50k is fun
Big caveat - I'd never own this vehicle if we didn't already have a large SUV for road trips, hauling stuff, or just times where I wouldn't be able to complete my route on a single charge. Home charging is the only way to own one of these IMO

never hurts to have an extra stream of income.
in West Texas, there are windmills and Pump Jacks in same fields.
those property owners don't care how the money comes in, as long as it comes in.

25 years ago, when I was working in the mechanic shop at a dealership, we did stuff like that all the time.
we hated working on older vehicles with high mileage.
because when something else broke a month later they would come back and say that wasn't an issue before we worked on it and we'd ultimately have to work on it for free.
so we always had an idea what the cheapest 10 or so vehicles on the used lot were going for (back then you could buy a quality used car for less than $10k).
then we'd find as much shite wrong with the customer's car as possible. get his estimate up close to what a decent used car would cost so we didn't have to deal with there's.

I’m sure this has turned into an anti dealer thread per usual which has some merit but the unintended consequences will raise costs for many when dealerships close, service centers close and rural areas are left to fend for themselves in more than just the buying process. The service side of Tesla is a cautionary tale for many.
My point is that there needs to be a balance and transition, otherwise we end paying for it..

That's because there was no negotiation. Tesla doesn't negotiate. You pay the manufacturer's price. If you want to pay MSRP for your car then walk in to any dealership and pay MSRP and you'll be done quicker.
Get rid of the dealerships and everyone will pay MSRP from now on because the competition has been eliminated. Then the manufacturers will bump the price to whatever they want.

I don't think they won anything really, except for the right to try the case.
But ultimately I think it will take a change to state law to allow direct sales.
And car dealers LOVE bribing, I mean, making campaign contributions, to state legislators. The auto dealers association is very powerful lobby in LA.

This is such a dumb, lazy argument. As if removing a middle-man will suddenly eliminate all competition.
If the market actually worked that way, manufacturers would already be charging whatever they want.

You will still have competition between makes.
There are a growing number of people that do not want to negotiate the price of a car. They will either pay the price, or they will buy something else.
I don't have an issue with some manufacturers or some customers wanting to use the current model. I have an issue that they are required to use the current model.
