Thanks Betsy DeVos?
She and the feds have little to nothing to do with this. Education decisions like these are made at the district and state levels. The incompetence lies with them.

It doesn't matter.
With crazy testing rules in place. Along with quarantine rules.
One kid in a class tests positive.
Those near him get quarantined.
Kids are gonna face multiple quarantines.
Just homeschool if you can.

I’ve been saying this.
Not so easy to indoctrinate the kids when they’re at home and Mom and Dad can see the crap you’re trying to fill their heads with.

What do parents who have to work do with kids? I have no kids, so I'm legitimately wondering.
Pay out the arse for daycare or babysitters if family can't cover.
Not a fricking smigeon of learning will take place.

I saw some elementary school teacher arguing with a bunch of MDs on my Facebook this morning about how unsafe it would be for kindergarten kids to be in school. Obviously she’s the expert in this discussion she believes

Does being in a room with a positive care require a quarantine with no symptoms? I haven’t heard that yet

Democrats absolutely will push for 2020-2021 online learning. We know with actual data that online learning hurts the fringe students, generally minority students. Why do Democrats hate minorities?

Our district is giving parents the option to opt into distance. Their deadline is the end of this week. Once they opt in, they can't change until the end of the fall semester.
Once they get the numbers from that, they will decide if they have the space to run a regular in person schedule for the remaining kids within the guidelines or whether they will go a hybrid/blended schedule for them.
Personally, I'm on the doorstep of 60 and take two different immuo-suppressant medicines twice a day. Having said that, for myself I'm ready to go in person and take whatever chances that entails. I'd hate to be in a position to have to make that choice for others, though.
Only hiccups I'm leery of is it looks like they will end up having us teaching to the in person kids and the distance kids simultaneously. That's going to be tricky to do while providing the proper attention to both sets.
Oh, and the word is that the computers they got a grant for to allow for the kids who don't have them to do distance won't be in until November. Not sure where the bottleneck was on that one.

Wait till this leads to massive drop out rates in the inner cities and they only thought truancy was a problem now....

Don’t pay any teachers who refuse to teach in-person classes.

It’s pretty comical that all these school boards are having virtual meetings on zoom to decide if students should return face-to-face.

pull them out and find a parent/teacher that wants to take a few of the kids from each of my kids classes and teach them for the year from home, and we'll pay them handsomely, likely more than they would make if they were a teacher at the school.
I’d bet my bottom dollar the kids would learn a lot more, too.

If schools aren't in session and parents can't be home, you don't think a market will open? I would think church daycares and such would be pressured to fill the gap immediately.
I know state regulations on formal daycares are insane, but it certainly can't be illegal for them to give kids under 12 a room with the same enrichment they'd give them for after-school care.

More likely the opposite. I'd bet a lot of schools will use the opportunity to push kids through. I'm not sure if they will re-institute things like LEAP requirements for graduation, but if not, you are likely to see graduation rates go up in a lot of places.
