Most of the time you make your target market feel like they are "too smart" to be advertised to. So you put them as the dopey guy who the target market can outthink. They make a target market guy/girl that is obviously too stupid to be a real person.
Pretty standard marketing. Makes the target market think they are far smarter than they actually are. Makes the target market repeat your marketing message to their friends proclaiming how smart they are.

My favorite dumbassery is this Subaru commercial:
Starts off with the dude saying it looks really high, and he’s terrified at the top of a mountain with his alpha mountain climbing chick condescending to him with “it IS high” like he’s a toddler. Then they show him driving and it seems like it’s his first time behind the wheel of any car, but obviously her car. Then they jump off a small rock into the water and obviously she goes first and he follows since she is the alpha. Then they rappel down a cavern and she hits him with the “youre doing great!” since he’s spinning and has no clue what’s going on.
And then at the end he points at a cow and says “whoa, is that a buffalo?!”. I want to believe it’s in jest but it really doesn’t feel like it since her response is a very sarcastic “babe, that’s a cow.”
It’s just such a fricking weird commercial. And unless they are marketing to chicks with gay boyfriends, I’m not sure who the target customer is.

The advertising sector went hard in woke. I recall reading how this was a huge win for the left when it was happening. They all pledged to essentially inject DEI and prog culture into every ad.
Not going to change until folks start to avoid buying crap from companies who buy ads like the one the OP is talking about.
Hell, Biden used the racial ratio in commercials as a talking point....
