re: The Suez Canal has been blocked for several hours

Back in the day, Captains of European owned ships told me that it was a case of scotch AND a case of cigarettes. The pilot sat drinking during the entire transit. It was illegal to give them any booze but a ship got blackballed to be at the end of the line in perpetuity for future transits if none given.

Look at the waterline, that is a light ship and any decent gust of wind is going to move that giant sail it has become.
FWIW, Europe and the USA are in desperate need of empty containers so being light means that ship has lots of empties headed to Europe. China has gobbled up empties bigtime.
Also, this means that Europe is going to need to obtain crude oil from somewhere other than Middle East.

Should have drilled for their own damn oil. Or are their solar and wind power not cutting the mustard?

Wouldn't be surprised to see some level of gas shortage in Europe at some point.
Wonder if this will raise the price of the cheap African crudes as well.

I hope this doesn't last THAT long, but it looks like it might.

Delivery times for oil are pretty exact. A delay of a few days, of that amount of crude, could certainly cause production reductions

Doesn't sound good for crawfish prices
This will no doubt somehow effect crawfish prices....
I wonder how many tons of Chinese crawfish are on that ship

Dunno if it was already posted but this was too funny not to share again
Apparently that tanker was drawing D*ck pics with its plot prior to getting stuck
What's funny is my submarine did this back in 1999 when we were waiting on our transit through the Suez

you realized that's fake
Before getting itself into a pickle by running aground in the Suez Canal, this unfortunate vessel drew one.
According to nautical tracking service VesselFinder, the massive Ever Given charted a route resembling a penis, testicles and an enormous butt in the Red Sea before it became stuck, causing an intercontinental traffic jam in the maritime artery.
As for the possibility that the vessel tracking site somehow conjured the data as a juvenile genital joke, “There is no room for some kind of conspiracies or false data,” a spokesperson for the site told Vice.

They did it while in the Red Sea NOT the canal itself. Ships get put into holding patterns prior to being cleared to enter the canal. Ships can sometimes be forced to wait days prior to being cleared to enter the canal.
this is similar to what air traffic control does when an aircraft is waiting on their turn to land

Hells bells, I'm trying to figure out how
happened.
LINK
Anyone want to work out the stresses on the less strong center of vessel?
Whoever suggested the Concordia salvage people may have been prescient
And anybody who plays commodity markets has probably already started (as well as placed orders for his next mansion and sports cars).
quote:
Berdowski said the ship’s bow and stern had been lifted up against either side of the canal.
“It is like an enormous beached whale. It’s an enormous weight on the sand. We might have to work with a combination of reducing the weight by removing containers, oil and water from the ship, tug boats and dredging of sand.”
happened.
