But don’t you miss having the opportunity to visit Little Rock for that game?

How so? UGA fans are not a bunch of pretentious douches and Ole Piss fans would never bark.

I love it too. Just wish it wasn’t so dang far of a drive. It’s a nice change of scenery that’s for sure.

Awesome party scene back in the late 90s. Met up with a gymnast, she had a plan for what was going to happen later in her dorm room, but we ended up another gal short. Sad, really sad.

Athens is at the top of my list for SEC football visits. Gainsville is at the bottom.

It was better in the 80s but hasn't gone to hell like Austin. Oxford, Fayetteville and Auburn are also good in the SEC

Beautiful campus there, but I'm not sure Sewanee is actually large enough to be considered a town. Monteagle might qualify, but Sewanee is a village at best.

You still get the upvote though. That campus is amazing.

I went there several times to the Navy Supply Corps School and was completely underwhelmed. However, I was older and no longer in to the college bar scene. To each his own, I guess. Perhaps game days are different.

By definition it is not a town but it is definitely bigger than tons of small towns all over this country.

Athens is a great place to live as an adult or raising a family as well as college students. Most college towns fit that bill but being 70 miles from north Atlanta makes Athens one of the best towns in the south to live. Its also a great place to retire...lots of people doing so.

I was fortunate to live in a loft in downtown Athens from 94-96 at the intersection of East Clayton and Jackson. I had four bars right underneath my place. Two at Street level (Flanagan’s and High Hat Blues Bar) and two below street level (Half Moon Pub and Ratskellar.) I am 54 now but man what memories I have when I visit DT Athens once or twice a year.
