Also, is a C5 still best bang for buck for a performance car? 25-30 year old gm problems not withstanding.

C5s are still popular with a lot of people. Lyle with C&S Corvettes gives a good breakdown on the C5 Gen and which years are better than others.

Most of my material possession dreams have come true(within reason, of course) but I still don't have a ragtop side-piped C3. How is this not the most beautiful vette ever...

My old man had this exact car, different color, 69 convertible with the 427. My mom made him sell if after my brother was born. He still curses at the tv when the jackson Barrett auctions are on and one was goes for over 100k. He will go to his grave with regret for selling it

These sad car stories effect just about every family.
In the 70's my sainted mother chauffeured me and my sister around in her 1971 Dodge Demon with the 340 V8.
Dad wasn't a car guy so when we moved to BR he decided to sell off things that weren't practical including the Demon. He had no idea how rare and valuable that car would be in just a few years.

Neighbor in Lake Chuck found one in Kansas and bought it from an old lady. It was her husbands and had been in the garage for years. This was late 1970's during the oil boom and him a petroleum engineer. He was transferred shortly after to NOLA so he and wife lived in Folsom. Last I heard he became a superintendent of an offshore platform in Africa, I think off Gabon.in the Gulf of Cabinda.

Very good bang for your buck. Get the Z06.

No downvote. Just curious as to why you think that? I drive a ZL1 Camaro and it never fails to make me smile. It’s impractical as hell but fun to drive.

My least favorite of them all.

Performance-wise it is a great platform from what I've gathered but didn't it share a steering wheel with the cavalier?

Correct me if I am wrong but isn't the C7 the last generation to have a manual option?

C6 had the same wheel as the Cobalt at one point.

That's exactly the route I would have gone, mild heads/cam/intake/tune too.

Thoughts on the C7 Corvette

A couple of my company's office locations have employee parking lots full of them. It's always the engineers that buy these things and love them.

I personally love them. It's the edge of what we can do with a front-mid engine sports car with the amount of power it puts out. The last of its breed.

I love the C8 more, but the C7 is my second favorite Vette ever and in my top 10 sports cars. Supposedly they are coming out with a next gen Camaro. I would be happy if that car was just a rehash of the C7 Corvette.

Bought the Mrs. a C7 last year. 2016 with 27k miles. Got a good deal on it and she loves it. Growing up I was a huge Vette fan, who wasn't back in the day? We drove it to Gulf Shores in August and I was impressed at the gas mileage and comfort it had for a trip.

ETA: she bought me some New Balances for Christmas last year. I am hoping to get jorts this year.
My extra ride is a 1987 square body with an LS swap.

Say what you want, the C7 is a pretty sweet ride

I had a C7 (base 3LT) and it was fun. The C7 zo6 or zr1 would be a great drive. The prices on the zr1 are steep. I now have the C8. Overall, the C8 is a better drive than a comparable C7 IMO.

Forget the "Corvette Dad" meme. The C7 is more fun than a barrel of monkeys. The darn thing could try to kill you if you let it.

One of my favorite sports cars. It's slightly easier for someone like me to pull one off than a 718 or 911.
