My bill came out to $26. I gave the waitress two twenty dollar bills in the folder 15 minutes before the end of the game. She just kept it without giving change back. I didn’t say anything but I’m just not coming back.
Pussies like you are why they keep doing this

If the server is magnificent and makes my experience better than what I imagined I’ll tip this.

15% was normal.
20% was for great service
10% was if they did the job but barely put in any effort.

I started only tipping 15% max regardless of how good the service may have been. If it’s bad service or carry out then I don’t tip at all.
Can I afford to tip more or give something on carry outs? Sure. But I don’t want to. And the opinion of the people workinh at that establishment is irrelevant to me.
Servers who expect at minimum 20% and at least 10% on takeouts made me just say “frick it” and look out for my own wallet

I frequent a spot that brings the bill with suggested tip amounts (15%,18%, etc) already calculated at the bottom. Problem is they calculate that tip on the total which includes tax! I’m not tipping on tax! Probably a bunch of people don’t even look at that. Another place adds a 20% tip for a large table, then has a place to add an additional tip. Nope.

Ordered take out Saturday. Parked my truck walked in to pick it up. Had a 20% tip added. Nope; take that off. You walk it to my car I would have gladly paid that but that’s not a service you offer.
You’re tipping them to bag up your food. Not worth 20%, but a few bucks is expected.

So, if you left $20 tip for your $95.80 bill - the server has 5 tables per hour
That’s $100 per hour!
And if it’s mostly cash - that might be tax free

What you are calling “standard tipping practice” is considerably better than what the other guy said.

A $40 tip on a $95 bill, she must work at Hooters

And Subway asking for a tip at checkout...
Tacos del Cartel in Perkins Rowe adds 20% for a party of 4 or more...I'm not going back on principal.
Most of the time, I'll tip more than 20% if service and food was great. However, when I feel forced to tip, then I don't add more.

Tipping has never improved my life. Therefore I stopped tipping all together

It's voluntary leave what you wasn't, and if the service wasn't good then leave nothing.
