I don’t think they see or care if a tip is put in. The order just pops up on the screen.

I typically tip $1 for anything other than dine-in. As I see it, I’m not going to miss a dollar and it might help someone who is working a shitty job.

Why can’t grown adults on this board figure out when and when not to tip?

love the policy I heard….if I have to order standing up there shall be no tip

I’ll give a few bucks if someone’s at least clearing my table. Or if it’s a carry out order that’s a particular pain.

Taking a pizza box from a kitchen counter to the check out counter is hard to get grateful for. If we start bagging up a salad, some wings and sauces- maybe I need some paper plates - sure thing.

Just give them five or ten bucks. It’s not a big deal and means a lot to those workers. Geez

I do give them something but not $10. I have to watch my spending.

I always tip a few bucks for carry out. I don't want to give people who handle my food any motivation to mess with it.

So is it normal for you to pick up food, sign a receipt with no tip, and they take your food back to possibly mess with it?
Do you think the hostess or person at the bar sees no tip and decides to open the bag and frick with your food then reseal the bag?

Can you give me a couple dollars tip for providing you with stupid arse advice?

I watched one of those YouTube videos of European people traveling the US. One of the things they thought was strange was tipping. They said in Europe, nobody ever tips or is asked to tip. Whatever the price of the meal is what they pay. If I had food delivered or at a set down restaurant, I'll tip. But if it's take out, forget it. And if it's at a buffet, I'll tip some but not 20%.

I feel like a schmuck for ever tipping any restaurant without full service. Never again.

I agree with the overall premise of your post.

I will say the receipt thing is just what it is. They don’t differentiate between carry out or delivery there.

I've recently cut wayyy back on tipping. I fricking hate it. I'll tip for sit down service, and curbside pickup. If I have to go in and get the food, absolutely not. Drive thru, absolutely not. Fast food/sandwich shop, absolutely not. I'm not tipping for "doing your job".

I live less than a mile from Dominos and order from them only to go and get it myself and not tip. I do not tip if I get it myself. If I am not given a refill of a drink or waited on, I do not tip. If a place asks for tips in advance, I will not go back.

I would starve myself before I would eat Dominos

If I pick up any food, the tip is always zero.

Honestly, the business should be tipping YOU

Starbucks hands the credit card machine to you and they say it’s going to ask a few questions. It only ask one question. Tip?

PJ's and Starbucks both ask for tips, which is weird because it's fast food. I would no more tip at those places than I would McDonald's or Wendy’s.

It's strange to me that the people who work at Starbucks believe they're providing a more complex service than McDonald's.

A lot of the times, I have realized, it's not the employees who are putting the "tip screen" up, it's whatever company makes the POS.

And if they make you sign your receipt, there's going to be a tip line of course. You can just cross it out.

I know it's slightly uncomfortable, but if you can't handle just saying "no tip" when it's clearly not warranted, then you shouldn't be eating out.

No, that's not true.

The business providing the service should not be imposing on its clientele and putting people in such an uncomfortable situation. It's rude and violates the tenets of polite society and proper social decorum.

shite is out of control. And businesses probably encourage it so that they themselves don't have to increase wages.

where will businesses find extra margin with all the rising costs??? There is no room even though everyone is raising wages to keep any good employees. We are trying to keep prices lower to keep you coming back. Your statement is not towards the normal business guy,but there are some that very slick to raise prices, keep lower wages, and have you pay the employees more. Usually you can easily tell, at lease any other businessman in like businesses can tell bc we all know our basic prime cost.

$0 on carry out pizza

I’ll do $7 on delivery because it saves me time and a trip if I’m getting involved. We’re 10-15 mins away. I used to give $5 but I upped it in recent years. I’m ok with the extra 2 bucks.
