Clocks should be left at standard time all the time and people need to adjust - just like it was done for thousands of years before control freaks tried to assuage their impulses and the government started giving into minorities (farmers)

The mechanical clock was invented less than 1,000 years ago. Before that, the time actually changed with the sun. The invention of the mechanical clock is what started the practice of having set times regardless of the sun. That is why we say "o'clock". When people used to use both the sun and clocks, you would specify that you meant a time based on the clock by saying "11 of the clock".

I think it's because people prefer to have the daylight in the afternoon and not 3 hours before anything is open and before most business for the day has begun.

Time is based off the sun anyway, so it’s midday (or noon) when the sun is directly overhead, regardless of what your timex says
Clocks were invented by monks so they could follow St Benedict’s rule better. And they invented beer, but that’s a different thread.
