I had a 2004 4Runner up until 2021. I miss that car.
It started every single time i ever cranked it and never once left me stranded. I had other vehicles along with it but that was my first baby i ever bought. I had done some upgrades to it for fun. It needed new leather after all that time, redid the dash and added a touch screed nav face, put my back up camera in myself, had tv headrests for my kids, put a 3 inch left on it with bigger tires and had blacked out windows, it had a sunroof.
A good friend of mine was going through a tough time financially and his kid needed a vehicle and was turning 16. I told the kid, you make straight A’s the entire year with no excuses as to why a class was hard or teacher sucked, i will give it to you.
My 4Runner was like a 16 year olds dream cause of all the crap i added to it.
Well, that little bastard pulled it off so i made good on my word and decided to pass it on and let his young arse tear it up lol

Extended warranty is dirt cheap, and well worth it.
Buying an extended warranty on a Toyota is almost like lighting money on fire.

I had one for a while and I loved it, but ended up trading it in because I needed something with more towing capacity. It drives and feels a lot like a Tacoma, I think that’s mainly due to it being built on the same frame. It’s very reliable, but gas mileage leaves something to be desired.

I went from a Jeep Wrangler to a 4Runner. The 4Runner rides better and gets slightly better gas mileage while also being just as capable off road but it is not as fun to drive.
Same for me on all counts. I've had my 4Runner for 2 years (it's a 2019) and not a single problem with it. The Jeep on the other hand...

On our 2nd (the 2000 model went 19 years and 265k miles; only got a new one because we got rear-ended and insurance gave us $4,500 for it)
2019 model has been just as reliable. Not the smoothest ride, but done plenty of road trips and it's done as much as we've needed it to do. Technology lags behind but I don't necessarily see that as a negative these days.
They are what they are...I haven't seen an advertisement for one in a decade or so since there's a pretty loyal following. I'm expecting this one to last another 19 years, and 14 years without a note is a nice thing.

4Runner delivers serious performance with an available i-FORCE MAX 2.4L turbocharged hybrid powertrain
I wouldn’t buy a current gen for this reason either. Same goes for the turbo v6 units they replaced the V8s with. The tech isn’t ready yet.

Toyota is destroying its brand by putting these weak engines (paired with turbos) in their trucks and SUVs.
They had to make the change due to the Biden cafe fuel standard changes.
Blame DC not Toyota/Lexus.

There's a new updated model coming out relatively soon, I'd prob wait for that... but some of the car people around here might say otherwise, not sure

Honda is still making the same 3.5L V6 for their Ridgeline... no turbos
Toyota is even putting the 2.4L in their damn Land Cruisers now

have a 2013. performance is great, no mechanical issues and I am at about 170k miles. interior is holding up well (cloth), however exterior paint is starting to deteriorate on the hood and handles.I have 1 kid and feel safe driving him around with it. Ton of storage space if you need to fold seats down.
I plan on driving it until it fails on me. hopefully another 100k miles.
Highly recommend.

Yeah mine is a 2019 with the V6 and going strong. I still have the Jeep I just gave it to my son to drive while his FJ cruiser sits under my carport. I still like the option of being able to drive with the top off. I need to sell that FJ if anyone is looking for a great vehicle for a teenager.

I bought a 2007 4Runner new and drove it for 11 years and 255K miles. All I ever did was change the oil and get new tires/brakes as needed. I traded it in for a 2018 4Runner new that I've put 162K on so far. Same thing, all I've had to do is oil changes and get new tires/brakes. I drive a pretty good bit and take them off road a decent amount, and they're pretty indestructible.

put 400k miles on my first one (97 5 speed) and 210k on my current one
it just runs and runs. i like reliability and simplicity.
eta and crawl control is the GoaT!

My wife has one, 2019 TRD Off Road, that she's driven daily since new. We both love the thing, its comfortable enough for us(family of 4) having done several road trips in it, if you don't fly and stay around 68ish mileage is about 20-23mpg with a small lift and stock size ATs, drops to around 16-18 at 75ish. Power could be a little better but moves just fine and we aren't towing anything with it, but they're super reliable so if maintained you can get a ton of miles out of the 5th gen models. Time will tell when the new 6th gens start showing up.
Eventually we plan to get my wife something new, probably Sienna or Odyssey, and I'll start daily driving the 4Runner and park my truck for when I need a truck. Hopefully one, or all, of our kids drive the 4Runner in high school.

i know the 5th gen body style has been around for basically 15 years but i'd consider upgrading to a newer version of what i have vs the new ones.
hopefully they'll finally start dropping in price a bit since the 6th is out
