Fewer people is not a bad thing. It’s just a bad thing if poverty is imported to sustain the population.

The real reason millenials and youngsters aren’t having kids is because they don’t want the responsibility and do not view children as a source of meaning and happiness
If finances are to blame, why is it that poor Americans households have higher birth rates?
The women not having kids are NOT indebted, going-nowhere young women
They are professional class yuppie women, urban dwelling and suburban dwelling, who are refusing to have children because they view motherhood as a form of oppression
That is an absolute fact......

The rate of increase fell, the sky must be falling.
How's the trend on the rate of decrease?

It's no longer expected, or even socially appropriate, to get married in your early to mid twenties. Men and women are expected to pursue to careers instead. In educated America, you would be looked down on for getting married at that point in your life.
The problem is cultural.
It's also economic, because single income households are no longer viable. And because raising a family has become so expensive.
Then too, the institutions that once upon a time existed to introduce people, and encourage them to get married, no longer exist.
We committed suicide.

And yet, millions in the US have kids with one parent and zero incomes. Strange, eh?

Are they poor because they have babies they cant afford? Seriously, this is a really dumb position.

No one is looking down but you are certainly getting sideways glances if you get married before 25

The world doesn’t need more people, imo. This shite is ebb and flow. Kinda like climate change according to some...

It's considered too early now.

I don't have an answer.
You could argue it's economics. That we need to develop our careers first. I think that may not be the primary driver though. I think it's more likely social, we've made marriage less of a priority. And women, in particular, are encouraged to push it off.
Men are also much less serious these days. Jung wrote about what he called the eternal child, the boy who never grows up, and he was worried this would become a major problem in the future.
LINK
The eternal boy is a man child who refuses to take on responsibility, and distracts himself with idle pleasures. He's incapable of serious action.
You have to teach men how to be men. And that happens less and less in the modern era.
Indeed, popular culture is hostile to healthy masculine norms, and boys are encouraged to deny their nature, and act like women.

quote:
The puer (boy) typically leads a provisional life, due to the fear of being caught in a situation from which it might not be possible to escape. His lot is seldom what he really wants and one day he will do something about it – but not just yet. Plans for the future slip away in fantasies of what will be, what could be, while no decisive action is taken to change. He covets independence and freedom, chafes at boundaries and limits, and tends to find any restriction intolerable.

Lately, the wrong type of people have been having all the babies.
The scariest part in all this. Yet recognizing this fact is somehow seen as eugenics and nazi shite by the left. Simple fact is that the people that can afford to have kids, aren’t, and the people that can’t are popping out kids every 10 months
