I’ve taken a couple of 4 day weekends for trips for Mardi Gras and to Napa/SF. After tomorrow, I’ll be off for 7 days at our beach condo and 3 days in New Orleans. Haven’t been off for a week since the beach last year which was this week last year. Also doing 5 days off next month in Mexico.

I couldn’t do all at once, but I also couldn’t do without at least a week off at one point throughout the year.

Scattered 3 day weekends throughout the year, usually blocked in with a holiday to make it a 4 day. I take one 7 day vacation in the summer with the wife and try to take off 3 weeks at Christmas and New Year. The week before Christmas is spent doing all family holiday crap, the week after Christmas is spent in a tree stand and the week after New Year is spent at the beach redfishing

A week during the summer, a week at Thanksgiving, and two or three four day weekends during the year.

My dad used to do this for hunting season.... then they told him he couldn't take it all at once..... so he would take his two weeks.... come in for two or three days then take the rest.

I get 6 weeks right now. Unless I have a vacation planned I take a lot of 4-5 day weekends lol.

It would be a glorious five weeks until the thought of going back to work sent me into a deep depression.

5 weeks at once is a waste because there is no way that he effectively planned 5 weeks worth of things to do or see and probably sat around watching daytime tv and jerking off.

You act like that’s a bad thing.

You’re basically a porn star. Getting paid to jack off.

When our last child was one, and we decided on no major trips that year, I took vacation for 23 consecutive Mondays.

Essentially all of my vacation that year, and it was great.

yep take of thursday and friday plus weekend equals a weeks worth, win win win, plus if you merge it with a holiday here and there to add an extra day off thats even better.

taking everything all at once tends to remind the boss how little you are missed when you are gone

I take mine in small chunks. I probably have three months worth in the bank. I know some baws who retired with a years worth in the bank. They would take all the vacay at once and disappear for a year, then come back one day for their retirement party and “officially” retire. I also know some baws who had a sudden illness that required extended leave and were glad to have that time saved up when sick time ran out.

My friend's dad would take all his during hunting season. Basically he left for the camp on Thanksgiving and didn't come home until Christmas Eve and then go back Christmas night until after the new year.

5 weeks here coupled with every other friday off, makes for some great long weekends and a week vaca here and there. Also try to schedule it around Thanksgiving and Christmas where i can get 10-11 day stretches only using minimal vaca days

I am always mixed on this.

My employer will let you bank up to 8 weeks and then you can cash out when you leave (fired or resign).

It took me 5 years of limiting my vacation time but now have the 8 weeks banked and it does feel like a little extra safety net if I got sick, etc.

Starting now, I hopefully will get to enjoy it like you baws do.

I start getting antsy after about 7 - 10 days, so I rarely vacation any longer than that. Five weeks at a whack would just be too much...

I take one full week off. Then I use the remainder for long weekend trips.

I wish we had that. I've had 3 different PTO scenarios over the years. My first job we had 3 weeks. You never lost it, but you could not accumulate more than 120. So it wasn't exactly use it or lose it, but if you were getting too close to having that much banked you’d need to take a few days off to keep accumulating. Of course it rolled over each year, so if you had time saved up in December there wasn’t this mad dash of people taking off the last week of the year so they didn’t lose it. Also they didn’t give sick time. Any days off were just PTO. Of course it was an accounting firm and you could take Fridays off in the summer without burning a day if your work was done. So it had its perks.

My next job we were paid salary but also got time and a half OT. You had the option of getting it paid out in your check or banking that time. I generally just got the money, but every now and then I’d add a couple of day’s vacation and whenever that project was over I had been getting the OT for I’d take a 3-4 day weekend to regroup.

This job is use it or lose it. And your time off is staggered. Everyone gets two weeks to start, it bumps up to 3 after a couple of years, then maxes out at 4 weeks in your fifth year. But anything not taken at the end of the year is lost. I would love to save a few days each year and get a bank built up.

I get 3 weeks paid. I usually take a long 4-6 day one and a few small ones. I can time it around a weekend and the weekend days don't count. Only use 2 weeks. 3rd week I'll opt to just take an extra weeks salary rather than take off
