Well, the Arlington National cemetery is where his family land was.
The gubment wouldn’t allow him to pay his taxes on it because they were going to take it.
He opted to the side of the south because the US was fricking him over.

It’s not about the statue.

When is LSU putting the Sherman statue up?

We aren't a country of hurt feelings. We are a country of vapid virtue signaling. Removing this, or any other statue isn't going to change ANYTHING. But that's not the "goal". The "goal" is for politicians, attention seekers, etc, etc to show YOU just how good a person they are.
The problem is with that as the "goal" there is never an end. Never a moment where the job is complete. Because it is a perpetual need for moral superiority. By definition, "Progressives" have to "progress". So now it will be on to the next thing. No matter how ridiculous or completely meaningless (from a practical sense) it is.
The only way it ends is when someone has the backbone to say no to the cancel culture. Everyone is terrified of the onslaught that would come by saying no. But it is just like dealing with petulant children (which in many respects Progressives are). At first they will scream and throw a fit. But eventually, they will get tired of screaming and crying in the corner and move on

Some of us have the capacity to be concerned about both.

I would argue they are linked. This is all part of the major whole we like to call the Culture War.

I like Generals that don’t lose.

Doesn’t really seem like it, there are 30 page long statue threads every couple of weeks here. I don’t know if I have ever seen one calling out the censorship and suppression of information by google and the like.

They won’t stop until the statues of all white men are removed.

I don't think you've looked then.

Great American hero from a great family. He served with distinction in the Mexican War.

Lee was a good man and those were different times in history. I love when we try to apply 2020 feelings to things that happened a long time ago.
Just like the Troy Middleton stuff at LSU over a damn letter he wrote 60 years ago. You'll eventually have to rename half of the country. Very Orwellian

He was a major reason we won the Mexican War. His and Beauregard's scouting work at the Battle of Cerro Gordo was vital to Winfield Scott's ultimate success in that engagement.

I also find it funny how those same people said its preposterous when people predict it will happen to all the men that founded this country. Hell, Betsy Ross and her flag were deemed racist by St. Kaepernick and no one questioned it.

There's no end in sight. You could probably find a reason to cancel or erase just about any white guy over the age of 80 for some reason or another.
We've become such a soft culture. Nothing matters more than not hurting someone's feelings.

Why are you people so incredibly ill informed, unprincipled, and hypocritical?
The entire premise behind America’s founding is the “RIGHT” of people to govern themselves, so much so as leading to outright rebellion and war.
BUT, when it suits your purposes, you abandon that right to self government argument you hold so dear and wave in people’s faces in favor of submission and loyalty at all costs, even when it goes against the will of the people who elected to choose their own government for themselves.
How exactly do you reconcile these sentiments with our founding premises, and founding fathers, especially Thomas Jefferson himself?

I'd lower that to 30

The issue is that we don't have any actual problems so we invent them in order to have dragons to slay so we feel like we're doing something with our lives. These are useful idiots used by nefarious people in order to change this country into some Marxist hellhole.
