I've never slept in one overnight but took some naps on a couple of them with different mattresses. The one my high school gf had, had more fiber batting so that there was minimal wave action and water displacement. That was very comfortable. The one my grandparent had was cheaper and felt like I was about to be thrown out of the bed anytime I moved.

The op should fill up a Walmart air mattress with water, and see how he likes it.

You obviously never took the sheets off and poured a bottle of baby oil on the waterbed and made the secks.

That's because they wore it out.

I had one as a teenager. It was uncomfortable, and my bedroom always smelled like the chemicals used to treat the water.

Why did you have to treat the water? With what?

I had one from middle school through high school. It was cool at first but it sucked. Winter time the water was always cold and summer time was like laying on hot water. I never want to lay on that again.

you only treat the water one time, with a copper solution I believe, just to prevent algae growth? can't remember the chemical.

as far as the guy's room smelling like it -- either he had a leak, or he was smelling something else.

I had one in college. I bought it for $50 from a friend. It had a heater and was just a big bag filled with water in a wooden frame. Because it had a heater, occasionally it would cause me to sweat, but I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed sleeping on the bed.

As far as sex goes, if you know how to work with the motion of the water as you and your consenting partner move, it enhances the experience. . . . . . . but you have to know what you are doing (takes a little practice). If you aren't very good at sex, well I suppose it could be a hinderance. I'll say this, a few girls at that time did comment that they had no idea sex on a waterbed could be that good. Like I said, you got to know what you are doing and work with the motion of the water.

I assume that it was chlorine, but that was over 25 years ago. I don't specifically remember.

My entire family owned them for almost 20+ years. I love those things. There was nothing wrong with having sex on them. Much better than a shitty frame bed about to break.

They were the shite.

Made me seasick. Which is weird because I dive. Never did care for them as a bed though.

It depended on the quality of the bladder you had. Some, like the one I had, was a "wave less bladder" so you didn't feel like you were on a boat in high seas. And a good heater for it was the shite.
