Such a tough question that I think people are starting to get better at finding the answer for. Everyone is different so there isn't really a right answer. My goal is to always wake up and not completely dread the day that I have in front of me. I still think I'm in the process of finding what activities make me feel "happy" and understanding what I have to do to achieve those moments as frequently as possible for as long as I can.

With a big bass bending my rod or a smoking hot chick stiffening my rod. Either bring pure happiness to my heart.

Happiness has to come from within. And I think he is right.
Happiness is a YOU thing. Has nothing to do with anyone else. Has nothing to do with a wife, kids, money, etc.
You don’t find happiness in those things. You bring your own happiness to those things. If you’re not happy on your own, you won’t be truly happy with anyone or anything else.

Your pastor is right, but Tim Keller will land you even closer to the truth.

Happiness is an intangible that is based primarily on an individual’s outlook of one’s self and life.
Simply put, it’s a choice to live happy rather than to live in sorrow and self pity.
absolute truth...each one of us choses whether or not to be happy every day. Once I figured that out for myself, I became a whole lot happier person.

Not having to worry about how you're going to eat/pay bills.

Happiness to me is cooking 2 1 1/2" bone in ribeyes to perfection for my family, drinking Elijah Craig and smoking a My Father then a Arruru Fuente 8-5-8. I genuinely enjoy my life.

Funny, it was a very very similar homily that changed my life. Oddly enough, I caught it on a random Sunday when I was in college and maybe went to mass 4 times in those 4 years.
I find joy in everything I possibly can ever since that day. It's hard because I'm naturally depressed, but it works 90% of the time.
