re: What’s the rule: paying

I could be wrong, but I highly doubt a cashier at a coffee shop knows the ins and outs of credit card fees on purchases. The business would actually be better off getting $5 in cash vs $5.05 on a credit card, but the cashier isn't handling those decisions.

This is somehow one of the dumbest questions I've seen asked on tigerdroppings.

If, let’s say you’re coffee is 5.01 or 5.05 and all you have is $5 and don’t want to use my credit card, is it ok to just hand over a 5 dollar bill?
Are there people really this stupid on the world?

OTOH, store has to give exact cash change. Either it eats a few pennies or make the item even numbers

Stopped reading when you used “you’re” instead of “your”

Does he go for that?

He usually says he’d rather my money.

The rule is you always pay your bill in full.

You want them to take a nickel loss every coffee? Do you
I’d never try to pay less than what’s due but they probably net about 4.85 if he swipes card

No. You are not exchanging the going rate for the product.
Stop being cheap.

We all know how Popeye's is the most delicious/fricked-up fast food. It never fails, something is going to be screwed up almost every time I go there. I just live with it because the product is great.
Last trip everything was going well. Asked could I have white meat on the 2 piece special with two sides. She said "not a problem".
Side note...I order inside because the speaker in the take out sounds like it was found on the side of the road after a dodge challenger had wrecked.
They had the red beans, and a spicy chicken sandwich my wife wanted. I'm giving them 5 stars...outstanding.
I pay with cash and she tells me that she only has $0.27 in her change drawer. This is a definite new one. I was almost there with a Chik-fil- experience.
I walked out to my truck cup holders and grabbed a hefty handful of change, "will this help"?
She asked me "would you like two breasteses".
I love Popeyes for the experience as much as the food.

Doing this as a strategy in the way you described it is a broke dick/tight arse move. Pathetic.
Pay what you owe or don’t buy the coffee

Sure. They can make up that nickel in the till by using some of the tips the good customers leave them. You cheap frick.

If you’re worried about five cents, then maybe you shouldn’t be buying a five dollar coffee.
Posted on 12/22/25 at 4:32 pm to braves21
I guess if they’re ok with it, otherwise no. But I can’t remember the last time I had cash

Show them your tiny dick and they’ll probably pity you and give you the coffee for free, a friend said that works for him.

A few thoughts:
Pay your way. Always.
Why are you spending so much for a coffee?
Did you think that this group would endorse your inclination to short the employee or the shop?
