I raced motocross for 12 years. Loved every second of it. Ive never had a street bike. I thought about it when I lived in north Georgia

Been in a busy part of Florida for 4years now. I could not imagine riding a street bike here. And if you have seen what I have seen with these drivers, you would probably think the same.

Its really unbelievable what is happening on the roads. People have lose their damn minds

I road that big Suzuki, going to Tampa and Orlando for years. With the Vance and Hines longshots, when some a-hole would start to come over without looking I could drop a gear, pop the clutch and it sounded like an 18-wheeler jake brake. They always heard that, or the airhorn.

I would still leave early and ride the slow lane.

I am Crazy not STUPID

Nothing against those who drive Motorcycles, as they are very safe drivers except ( the fricking kids on Rocket Machines)

It is the Car drivers who do not care about Cycles

I think it would be a lot of run to ride mountain roads.

I'm in N.O. and just about all my long rides take me to some mountain range to ride for a few days. I've been up in the Ozarks 5 times, the Smokies a dozen or more, N. Georgia in the Suches area 4 or 5 times and to the Rockies twice.

Riding in all of them except the Rockies really has a rider paying attention since the twisties come fast and the roads are just about all 2 lane. It's not bad riding during the week in these areas, but on weekends there are loads of sportbike riders that all think they are racing at the Isle of Mann much to the dismay of the casual rider wanting to take in the sights.

Now, the Rockies are totally different with many of the 2 lane roads having wide sweeping curves as opposed to the snaky roads in the Ozarks and Smokies. The fact the Rockies are so much bigger mountains means the roads are pretty tame compared to them It's not until you get WAY up in the Rockies that they start to tighten up and become a bit more challenging.

Another thing with the Rockies-------the makeup of the material that created the mountains changes with some places having reddish rocks, then gray granite then limestone. It's a geological wonderland and constantly changing as you travel the miles.

My fantasy ride, and one I will have to take within the next couple years if I want to put it behind me is to ride to California and jump on the PCH and ride it all the way through up to Washington St. from San Diego up to Seattle.

Expansion joints in your garage? We don't do that in the 'Sip. Also nice having your water heater in the garage, we mostly put them in attics.

Drying and plastic shrinkage for plastic concrete are so bad in AZ and Las Vegas that folks take crazy measures there to try to prevent it.

Possibly evidence of that?

If his attic is somewhat climate controlled, maybe they wanted to get the water heater (as a contributing heat source) out of it?

OP, I’ve had classic British bikes, I won’t ever ride again but I might tinker with them in retirement. They can be aesthetically stunning pieces of shite. (Thanks to Lord Lucas: Prince of Darkness)

I ride a Harley softail with fairings and a solo seat and have had a variety of bike. The first one was a Cushman Eagle when I was 13. I've had Yamahas, Hondas, Triumphs and 4 Harleys.

I don't believe motorcycles are more dangerous than going in caves with sharks or night diving.

I've had more injuries from unplanned dismounts from horses and working on drill rigs than motorcycles.

If I were in the market for life insurance, it might be an issue.

Not now - family took the keys away from me back in 2010 - @ age 72.

Had a Kawasaki Nomad 750 = was spending 6 weeks in the summers on the road out west camping in National Parks. Fantastic memories.

Then got a Jeep. Continued for another 4 years - then had to give it all up.

Had a couple of Suzuki dirt bikes back in my 30s - Lots of fun riding with my son.

Was lucky - never had a serious spill, despite a number of upsets.

Lucas Zener Diode hell for a lot of Brit cycle riders. For such a small, inexpensive part, it sure wreaked havoc on lots of two cylinder, 4 stroke British bike riders.

I'd like to get one.

Ridden a grom and a dual sport.

Enjoy both and that's what I'd shoot for.

Something to knock around on. Not interested on highways or interstates. More of the adventure riding.

Look up Trans America trail on YouTube. That's my goal.

Edit: to the OP the grom is a blast. I'm a big guy but it's still comfy for the short trips I'd take goofing around. Easy to ride. Fast enough. Being small is pretty fun. Good place to start.

Honda makes a NAVI that is a twist and go I'd love to get the wife. You could learn on that I suppose. The grom has a huge following and lots of upgrades to make it more snappy as you progress. Easy to fit in a garage. Cheap as shut to operate.

Hell we ran into a guy who put DOT knobbies and would light trail ride. It looked hilarious but also fun. Very well balanced.

I'm more of a DRZ 400 zuk kind of person. Bulletproof and can do everything I'd want without being heavy as a 650 off road. A lot of weight can wear you out.

I believe you may be mistaken on this. The Nomad first came out in mid 98 and the Nomad at the time was a 1500 cc bike. They offered it in 2 colors, Green and the other in Red.

Now, they have been making 750cc Vulcans for quite a while now and I believe that is probably what you had at the time.

Why to ride? Wind therapy is real.

My first bike was kinda surreal.
KTM Superduke 1250 GT. For people who know bikes, this was a crazy starter bike. I regret selling it.

I now own a Triump Tiger 900 adventure, KTM 490 adventure, and a Chinese made Orion 190 dirt bike.

2005 Yamaha V-Star 650 that I've had for 15 years. With a few mods, goes fast enough for me. Wind therapy is real, and it's amazing how intensely you sense smells and small changes in temperature when you go in and out of shaded spots on the road. Everybody with a bike knows why dogs stick their heads out the car window.

Set up for a day trip.

Configured for camping.

After doing a few track days, I have no interest in riding on the road anymore. Too dangerous and boring.

Have a Triumph Street Triple R.

I ride the trace a couple years back.
The is a such thing as too much scenery. It is pretty boring and slow until you get further north.
Just FYI. I came back on other roads. I preferred that route.

Thanks for the reply. I totally get it as I have ridden the Trace several times by car. This trip will be more of a bonding trip with my son. Jackson to Tupelo if our rear ends can take it. Lol. Have a great day my brother.
