I prefer to laud people like my grandfather who was responsible for saving the Twente Canal bridge or the timely deaths of thousands of German soldiers. He was a real hero.

Gonna call bullshite on that one. Germany didn't have a population that could support anything close to that attrition rate.

Because that’s exactly what I meant, instead of Apple autocorrect, given that a few lines later I said 10,000 a day in the last six or eight months. Lol

There are none. They fought for a horrendous tyrant. They lost and do not deserve to be considered heroes. They were all war criminals

Hans-Joachim Marseille is an interesting guy to read about. One of Germany’s most successful fighter pilots in Africa. French Huguenot. Liked to party.
Saw Franz Stigler mentioned earlier. He’s the guy who let the battle damaged B-17 go. I read Charlie Brown’s book about the encounter a few years ago. Good read.

Some of the responses in this thread pretty much show why you never hear about German war heroes.

Panzer Ace: One of the first that came to mind.
Also Kurt Meyer, Kurt Knsipel, Wilhem Moncke, submarine ace Otto Kretschmer
Might throw in Joachim Peiper although troops under his ultimate command were responsible for Malmedy and massacre of Belgium civilians
