What they portray is closer to a Utahraptor. The name just isn’t as cool as velociraptor
It’s not even that. Utahraptor wasn’t officially named in science until the same month the movie came out, which was well after the book was written.
If anything, the “Velociraptors” in the Park films are scaled up Deinonychus. I’m pretty sure one of the paleontologists used as a consultant for the novel (Horne?) had tried lumping the Deinonychus genus under Velociraptor in the 80s, and Crichton thought the word sounded cooler (subjective) and, in my opinion, is easier to say.

What does the word "raptor" mean?
Something like “pillager” or “thief.”

Michael Chricton probably should’ve Googled that.
He was a scientist by education and a meticulous researcher. Just didn’t let it get in the way of a good story

Wait until you find out that the folks who made Twister used a camel's growl/moan as the tornado sound.

claws and teeth on those things even at 30 lbs?
Would be wild to walk up on a pack of them in the woods.
I could take probably 3. Any more and things get sketchy

It would still be like fighting a bobcat

Hell, a wasp weighs less than a gram and can frick your day up.
Dynamite comes in a small package.

That thing is giving off pitbull vibes.

THey just got the name wrong. To scale, the dinosaurs in the movie were Utah Raptors.

Yep, even at 30 - 40 lbs, a successful predator is really dangerous.

"Why are scientists ruining smallpox. Just looked it up and it's almost eradicated in modern western countries."

How much does a pitbull weigh. Chances?

Utahraptors wore white short sleeve shirts and ties, and rode bicycles as they went door to door. Not nearly as threatening.

I find out that not only do “scientists” think that dinosaurs had feathers, but that velociraptors were only like 30 pounds. WTF is this shite?
The same scientists who wanted you to get a untested shot a few years ago.
Never simply "trust the science"

"Honey Badger" was my first thought on small but vicious package.
