It depends on how it is asked. Requirement vs. Capability
If a coached asks you to run an 8 minute mile and you achieve that task, you gave 100% of what was required. If you run it in 7 minutes, you were capable of putting forth more effort than what was required and therefore gave more than 100%.
If you are asked to give 100% effort to complete a task, you can only give 100%

I only put out 50% so that if needed I can go into overdrive and give some extra

Because you need to constantly improve. Giving 10% more than you did last time. 110% effort, production.

I give 100% at work:
10% on Monday
30% on Tuesday
30% on Wednesday
25% on Thursday
5% on Friday

25% on Thursday
5% on Friday

You should've given a minimum of 100% to your post, probably more

It just means to do your very best, and then to give a little more once you think you've reached your limit.
It's just motivational, not that hard to understand.

Because most people's "100%" is about 70%.
Just means dig deep, give more.
Just means dig deep, give more.

So, so profound. I'm rethinking my view of the world.
Same as amps that go to eleven.

Perception vs. reality. Most people are capable of much more than they realize. Asking them to give 100% results in them giving all that they think they can give, which is actually leaving a lot on the table. Asking them to give more than 10% extra sounds impossible, but ask for a little extra, and that seems doable. Motivation is not definable with mathematic precision as the term suggests, but it works for most people.

Sounds like you’ve never given 110% for anything

once heard Dale Brown speak and address this comment. He said anyone asking for more than 100% of your effort is asking you to fail

If I eat 100% of my pie and 50% of your pie I ate 150% of availible pie.

Lou Ferrigno giving "110%" on Celebrity Apprentice, but Dee Snyder finally shut down that crap talk.
100% is the max.
100% is the max.
