House of Blues in the mid to late 2000’s used to get some great shows same as the varsity in Baton Rouge but for some reason both venues quit trying a long time ago.

The real answer is the loss of Beaver Productions. They were the ones who arranged seemingly half of the shows between the musical acts and the venues. No one else has stepped in and filled the gap.

So you still get some of the large acts that have the personnel to arrange their own tours, but you miss out on a lot of the smaller tours because there's no one to facilitate it.

Huh, name I haven't heard in forever.

Is there a story behind why they no longer exist or why no one took their place?

Beyoncé will be there in a couple of weeks. You may not like her but she is about as big of an act as there is.

This is what I was thinking. Nola gets the big concerts, crime in the city or not.

Who does OP think Nola missed out on? It doesn’t get much bigger than Garth, Taylor, and Beyoncé at the moment.

They may not realize their old faves don't really tour as much. Or that a lot of these small acts don't really go to many cities.

Seriously????

Garth Brooks
Taylor Swift
Beyonce’
The Cure
Duran Duran
Depeche Mode
Britney Spears (usually starts or ends her tours here)

Literally every big act plays in New Orleans as part of their tour

Their founder retired and the company was either going out of business or getting reorganized, don't know what ultimately happened with that.

They had already shifted some of their focus to Houston and away from the Gulf Coast after Katrina and never fully returned to the same level of activity (it's not just New Orleans, it's other venues as well).

Why no one else has filled the void, I don't know. Seems like a good opportunity.

The NFL out of all organizations was gonna fine New Orleans for car break ins.

So, seeing as how all shows are right in the center of a shite hole area, as an artist, why the frick would you want to perform there?

It seems like they either get the huge tours (sometimes they get skipped) or the likes that play Tipitinas and similar venues. Need more mid-tier acts that play something like Lakefront arena.

Birmingham doesn't get the fraction of big name shows as New Orleans, yet it's not that much smaller SMSA.
1.2 million for New Orleans, 1.1 million for Birmingham

It hasn't, but it has not been a big rock show hot spot for many years despite the musicality/party vibe of the city due to the demographic. The numbers usually aren't there with the bigger venues for rock acts.

As mentioned though, quite a few big acts have just come through or are coming through here soon whether they are your cup of tea or not. And also, Jazz Fest does get a lot of huge acts these days from a variety of genres, so you don't see most of those acts do stand-alone shows in New Orleans when they play Jazz Fest.

What a dumb thread As mentioned: Garth, Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Drake, The Cure, Depeche Mode, Guns N Roses, Zach Bryan, The Eagles, The Rolling Stones, Elton John and I’m sure plenty others I can’t remember have recently played or have dates booked. Who else hasn’t come through that’s considered “major”?

Mid tier? Like who? Music is so subjective. Incubus just played in February. Great “mid-tier” show IMO, but if you (or anyone else) aren’t a fan then it doesn’t count. Stupid logic. Plenty of good musicians, big and small, play New Orleans.

I mean, rock hasn't been what it was in a while.

Even the 2000's rock/emo had enough small bands that had to get in dates to make money.

Didn't Bert Kreischer's big arena show comedy festival deal just roll through NOLA, too?

Dave Chappelle coming to Nola is a much bigger deal than Brint Crystuls. You can only hear "the Michelin" joke so many times before it is annoying. And he's so fat.

Bham is too close to ATL. Almost all A listers are going to skip Bham...for 2, 3 nights in Atlanta. Also Birmingham would have trouble selling out without the help of nearby cities and ATL.

Nola is also a tourist city like Vegas which makes it's more desirable to tour there as people are more willing to fly in to hang out in NOLA as well as attend a concert. Bham has no such effect

Because there was an instance where a famous rapper got shot and killed on the night before his concert. Happened last year I think.
