New Orleans has it's own divisions within the city.

All the real coonasses I know from down the bayou south lafourche area really love to use the anything north of I-10 joke every chance they get.
I would assume the good ole boys from up in the 318 love to make fun of Cajuns too.

South Louisiana is its own unique culture where as north Louisiana is more "Southern". But then you have a parish like Livingston Parish that is in South La but is probably more North La than South La.
I grew up in the northern part of East Baton Rouge parish and it was probably closer culturally to Pineville than Acadiana back then although we did eat SLA food and had a lot of Catholics and cajun surnames.

That's interesting. I thought New Orleans was mostly black.
But it turns out there aren't any blacks at all.

I agree the Lafayette - BR hate is a LSU -ULL thing. It would be interesting to see a poll of how many LSU fans you have in Lafayette & surrounding areas. I would think the people in Lafayette would be surprised with the # of LSU fans there. Then maybe that hate would be a little less .

Tulane wishes it were Duke or Vandy, but it's closer to Safety School University. It's really good for well off yankees who couldn't get into a decent university but are mortified at the prospect of going to a state school.
Southern University is the HBC choice in Louisiana. But it struggles to attract and retain students that are ready for a university environment. It's sort of redundant and unnecessary today. It will never really amount to anything except being the only source of white collar employment in Scotlandville.
McNeese and Nicholls are just trying to pay the bills and keep the lights on. They would probably wish they were ULL if they weren't so worried about insolvency. Otherwise they are pretty cool and serve their purpose pretty well.
Unfortunately, ULL has major little man syndrome. They wish that ULM didn't exist, and they like to pretend that they are more than just a directional school. It competes with Southeastern, ULM, McNeese, and Southern for LSU fallout.
ULM is kind of its own man. They are in far better shape than McNeese or Southeastern.... but it wishes it were LaTech.
LaTech is pretty cool and it's located in a solid, safe college town. A lot of good people there that go on to have good careers in a wide variety of fields. But it wishes it were LSU.
LSU loves LSU more than anything. Nothing else really matters to LSU - except perhaps current events in Houston, where most of its graduates move to.

Louisiana has a ton of diversity, and I don’t mean that in a (haha look at me using a euphemism for black people) kind of way. Legitimately, the state has a ton of ethnic, religious, racial, linguistic, and economic diversity. As a result, each corner of the state has entirely different values, wants, and needs from each other part of the state. New Orleans is a port town with a lot of creoles, Jews, transplants, and Italians that survives on tourism. Plaquemines and St. Bernard are full of Italians, Canary Islanders, and Croatian fishermen. Lake Charles and Baton Rouge are petrochemical factory towns with large black populations which need infrastructure. Houma/Thibodaux are cajun sugarcane farmers and oilfield workers. Lafayette and New Iberia are oil field services companies with Catholic Lebonese, Cajun, and Canary Islanders. North Louisiana is predominately anglo protestant soybean and cotton farmers. CenLa has loggers. The north shore is suburban sprawl and loggers.
These areas each have different cultural values, economic niches, and needs that aren’t necessarily shared with other regions of the state. They barely even speak the same language!!! Folks from Chalmette, Shreveport, Cut Off, and Livingston all have completely different accents from one another to the point that they could have trouble communicating. Heck, Gonzales and Lutcher are only about a 15 minute drive from one another yet sound like they’re from different planets!
Because the state government has a very top down structure where all of the decisions and funding are at the state level, these regions, industries, and interests must compete against each other in Baton Rouge for resources. In addition, these populations and cultures developed in relative isolation from one-another for decades up until 2005 to the point that most folks were born and died where their parents and grandparents did. This works out as one would expect with a political and cultural Balkanization of sorts.
In the end, Louisiana is an unhappy marriage of multiple incompatible cultures that are forced to compete with one-another for resources due to our centralized, socialist, authoritarian state government.
This is probably the best summary of the differences in Louisiana cultures that I’ve ever read.

Baton Rouge is divided in of itself.
I guess North Baton Rouge got expelled before the picture was taken.

The above is the way the Louisiana College profs present Louisiana. IMO some of the names fit and some don't.
I would call Sportsman's Paradise 'The Protestant Belt' .
I don't hate New Orleans, I feel sorry for it because it smells really bad there. I would call Greater New Orleans 'Creole Land' or Little Haiti since most of its' population are descendants of Haitian slaves.

As a Northshore resident I just wish Nola would get its shite together. Same with BR. And I kinda hate them until they do. But still enjoy them somewhat.

That's because there isn't very much to be proud of. All we can do is hate our fellow Louisianans to make ourselves feel better.

I’ve seen that map so many times and I think it’s very lazy. I do like your “Protestant Belt” name for the 318. I think it should stretch further south though as most of central LA is Protestant heavy as well.

You have a point , perhaps CENLA would be better ,it's really a buffer zone between the Cajun region and the Protestant Belt.
