Are you sure about this?

Have you gauged actual people? How many African Americans have you talked to about the incident?

How many women have you talked to?

Are you sad your first attempt at this joke in this thread didn't get the attention you craved, so you had to modify it and try again?

You want to find overly dramatic people, then look no further than the Smiths. This is exactly how they think. Seriously name one person in Hollywood more narcissistic than Will Smith and his family?

So I'm going to go ahead and call BS on your justification.

Just listen to an interview with one of them. I’ve heard people who aren’t in an insane asylum so out of touch with the world than those four. Will Smith makes Tom Cruise look completely sane and down to earth.

If I was Rock my response would be…

Jada’s name in my mouth: not cool
Other penises in Jada’s mouth: cool

"Man, this year I might tune into the Oscars, remember that crazy shite with Will Smith and Chris Rock last year?"

If one person does that, they've succeeded
That one person will be disappointed next year when they find that the Oscars have taken steps to ensure crazy people don't make it on stage again.

He was moments from winning Best Actor (and it supposedly wasn't a surprise) so him doing this as a bit or for publicity makes zero sense.

And very few people would care because no one would have watched the show and there would be even less discussion about it today. Instead, it is dominating the headlines. Now Smith can portray himself as both a hero to women and move away from the "nice guy" image he has always had. And if it turns out the response to him is negative, then he can quickly shift to being a "victim/hero"....for any number of reasons. One, he just had a mental breakdown when ugly things were said about his wife. "Mental health" issues are all the rage among the victim/hero class. Or, if that doesn't work then he become the black victim attacked by racist America for disparaging his actions. Pick your victimhood card. They are all there

He was there to present so I can see a world where he gets talked into doing a bit but he would have had a line ready to go, if nothing else to let everyone know it was a bit. He's not Andy Kaufman.

Rock is a comedian. I'm sure he would think it was funny. He now has material for the rest of his career. He told a joke so inflammatory that he got a huge star to hit him during a live awards show broadcast. A moment that will never be forgotten. Did he need the publicity? No. But he will now have that moment forever.

This doesn't seem like something that's their bag but even if they were desperate enough to manufacture some controversy, well mission accomplished.

The ratings for the Oscars were dog shite and plummeting faster each year. And Hollywood has become more polarizing than ever. There is a large segment of the populace that has completely tuned them out. When your industry only survives on attention, having none is a death sentence.

Smith has been in business for a long time. He's attended hundreds of awards shows. He's a polished actor. To think that after decades in the industry he would all of a sudden go ghetto thug and physically assault another man during an event he knows would garner worldwide attention is so out of character its absurd.

If it was staged, he wouldn’t have laughed initially. He would have jumped right into it.

The cesspool of twitter has been mostly critical of Smith since last night, and that includes other celebrities and comedians. Black, white, male, female.

It kind of looks like he got tired of being in character all the time.

He didn't do shite until the cue from Jada. This proves it as much as disproves it.

The threat of a public arse kicking used to keep people from mouthing off to each other for centuries.

It used to be pretty common knowledge that talking shite about a man's wife warrants a physical reaction. I have no problem with it and the world would be a better place if it was done more frequently.

Smith leaning back away from Rock as he throws the punch/slap (just as they do in fight scenes while acting)

Real or staged this isn’t evidence of anything. That’s how Smith was taught to fight (as in while acting) and that’s were 99.9% of his fighting experience comes from……even if throwing a real punch muscle memory alone would make it very likely to throw it the same way

Where are the feminists that would normally tell us that a strong woman can protect herself and doesn't need saving by a man & his toxic masculinity.

In real life? 100%. At an award ceremony where it's public knowledge that comedians will take some shots at people? No...obviously not.

Hell...if what Smith did was ok, Rickey Gervais should have been straight up murdered for this last Golden Globe opening.

The Oscars are the crown jewel event of the MPAA. The MPAA are home to some of the most rigid, conservative tight asses in all of the Entertainment Industry. There is no way the MPAA would knowingly allow anything as crass as this BS to upstage their biggest event on a Global Television Stage

So if the MPAA wasnt in on it, then was it all Rock and Smith? Smith was the favorite to win his first Oscar, do we think he knowingly upstaged his own Best Actor Award night for a goofy publicity stunt? Publicity for what or whom, exactly?

Why would Chris Rock allow himself to be punked on Global Live Television? What could he possibly have gained?

This behavior extrapolated gave us Gen Z, I don't think it worked. We are far worse than we have ever been and it all stemmed from this behavior and over correcting from it.
