I had mine done 20 years ago. I shot trap the next day.

I had my bottom ones surgically removed earlier this year. I had the option of going under or just local, and I chose local and they immediately stopped when one spot wasn’t fully numbed.
If you can still feel one spot on your lips while the rest is numb, they may need to do one more local shot.
The soreness the next couple of days was rough but you can tough it out with ibuprofen and a cloth ice pack.

You're missing the most key information here. How old are you?
Wife had hers out at 21, she was good 2 days later soft diet.
I have mine out at 38, June of this year. It's still healing. I was off work for a week and on pain meds for a week.
Age is huge in this.

Wondering if any of y’all had your wisdom teeth out recently?
Would 33 years ago be considered recently? If so, then yes.

Did they put you to sleep or are you awake for it?
They put me to sleep. They had to surgically remove mine.

Do you know what drugs they give you? (Mainly if it’s Versed because that does not work for me)
Vicodin. This is how I discovered I am in fact allergic to Vicodin. It makes my blood pressure bottom out.

How long does it hurt for? Can you use just Tylenol for the pain or will I need something stronger?
Probably going to need something stronger than regular Tylenol.

Should I plan to take the next day off of work?
Maybe one day, but after that you’ll be fine.

Anything else I should know?
Don’t know if you smoke, but if you do, you’re going to want to quit do at least while you’re healing. Also avoid drinking from a straw. These can lead to what is called a dry socket. You don’t want that. It’s a level of pain that you can’t fathom until you’ve experienced it.

Had it done when I was a teenager... Fast forward 3 decades my top left back tooth cracked/broke... Go to the dentist and he says that when I had the Wisdom teeth taken out the dentist used the pre-broken tooth as leverage and stressed fractured it... a few years later the top right back tooth broke/cracked.... I have solid teeth.. no cavities.. no problems except for this crap...

Had it in January for all 4. They out me under and I paid out of pocket for the long term pain injection. I did it in a Thursday and worked from the couch Friday. Overall not bad, didn’t take much for pain pills and lived on milkshakes for a bit. The worst part was having to flush the sockets for weeks.
I went into a round of Invisalign 3 weeks post op to make some space from the crowding.

I had 4 of them cut out, they put me to sleep, the first thing I remember is waking up at Sonic with my wife getting me a milk shake. It really wasn’t bad. The 3rd day was the worst in recovery but nothing terrible.

I had 5 taken out. DoD didn't pay to put me to sleep, just Xanax or Percocet. One of the five shattered and had to be pulled out piece by piece. I hung out on the couch for a day, and ate ice cream for a few days. It wasn't bad. I didn't take anything but Motrin. Working the next day may be dicey because your diet won't be great.

Is it stupid to take your wisdom teeth out or is it wise to leave them in. That is the question.

All 4 same time. Oral surgeon. Out like a light but I it was taking too long and I started coming out of it before he finished. I felt the surgeon wacking on one of them with a chisel and hammer to break one of them. No pain but I could hear it. TINK!! TINK!!

I had mine removed last year at 52. Pulled, not surgical. Well, I think one was considered surgical since it broke into my sinuses in my upper jaw.
Did one side at a time over two visits.
Three of the teeth came out okay. He had to tug for about a full minute on the last one. It sucked. My neck was actually sore the next day from trying to hold still while he was tugging.
One of mine also broke into the sinus cavity which made it more worrisome. I had to be careful sneezing and coughing to make sure no pressure went into my sinus cavity. That would cause the clot to dislodge as well. Took more time for that one to heal.
I was not put to sleep. I elected nitrous and the dentist numbed the hell out of my mouth.
No pain after really at all. Maybe an Aleve here or there. Having the eating requirements after these surgeries sucked too. Can't eat real food til like day 5 after.

It’s imperative that you don’t suck through a straw after having it done. You’ll get a dry socket.
This is huge advice. My sister wound up going first and getting hella painful dry sockets from using straws. Later when I did mine it was a weekend of pain then I was good.
As far as the procedure goes, it's going to vary a great deal depending on if you have impacted (stuck the bone/under teeth wisdom teeth) or if they can all just be pulled. I'd tend to lean towards a surgeon and having them do it since they are experts and your experience will be smoother. But if they are impacted at all you'll definitely be better off with surgeon and being put under.

I was given a plastic water syringe and told to clean out the hole left behind until it heals. Well, you gotta stick that plastic syringe down in the hole and force everything out. Like, the tip of the plastic needs to be well down inside your gums, not just hovering over the top. I wasn't doing that and food was building up in the hole and it was the nastiest thing you could imagine after a couple of days. Food literally rotting in your gums. It's a wonder I didn't get an infection. Don't drink out of a straw for however long they tell you or you'll get a dry socket.
What were you eating for the first two days to get food caught in your sockets?
I wasn't allowed to eat anything solid for a few days. I lived on banana pudding, yogurt, ice cream, etc. That sort of food doesn't get trapped in your sockets.
And yeah, I was told about the straw thing about 10 times before I left the dentist office. No cigarettes or anything either (I don't smoke). My dentist gave me a nice booklet and plan for after the surgery broken down nicely and explaining the time lines when you can eat more solid food.

Pulling teeth and surgery are two different things.
If you can feel your wisdom teeth, they only have to pull them, no surgery required. That is just a local anesthesia. I wasn't knocked out for mine and the most pain I felt was the initial shot they give you.

If you really want to know, take a look at your x-rays.
If your wisdom teeth are growing straight, you may never have issues.
I had my bottoms removed but not the top because the top came in straight with no overcrowding.

I had it done overnight in a hospital because one was laying on its side under another tooth. It's been a while but I dont recall it being particularly painful. The worst part was not being able to eat solid food for about a week.

Prob a good thing since this is an opioid.
I'm very thankful I hated the Vicodin I was given. It made me feel like I had motion sickness. I took it once and never again.

Don’t be a pus, just have them pulled out. A drunk AF dentist did mine in 80s, Novocain shot and ibuprofen. I drove myself back to the barracks.

quote:Not recently but yes had them out. I was put under or out. IDK what they gave me. All four of mine were impacted. There was swelling and bruising. I remember it not being painful until I had a dry socket and then it was VERY uncomfortable till I got that fixed. I also lost feeling on the lower left jaw line. Apparently they bruised a nerve taking one out so I looked like bells palsy for a couple months. It was not a fun time for me.
Wondering if any of y’all had your wisdom teeth out recently?
