I was absolutely like "YES" at this comment and that someone actually had the guts to say it. The female employee of course had no response and shortly went off on another tangent.

The whole incident wasn't directed at anyone in particular and calmed down pretty quickly, but it was incredibly inappropriate.

I'm really missing the seriousness of this situation.

You need to put emphasis on creating a hostile environment, being divisive, and the part about going/partly suggesting others join her at a bar.

If this person is a supervisor, she has likely violated several better practices that are clearly spelled out in HR related to supervising employees.

There's nothing wrong with a bar in and of itself, but many companies frown on making open invites as a supervisor that aren't formal events - staff might feel compelled to go, potential for harassment, etc.

You don’t have high seniority if you are going outside HR to an area manager with something as stupid as this. If you do, you won’t for long.

If you assume her response to any political comments made by yourself would result in her reporting you to HR, among other actions, then you are morally obliged to take the same scorched earth path as well.

Use every single tool at your disposal to make sure she is appropriately punished for any actions she performed.

Start keeping records and you definitely report it to top of the chain as Hostile Work Environment. That will get them into hot water with the EEOC and DOL when it comes time to file a Federal Workplace Complaint.

Don't hesitate to file a Dept of Labor complaint once any aggressive actions are taken towards you. There's whole divisions of federal employees sitting around seeking ways to prove they are active, to generate paper flow to prove their effectiveness at... paperflow. That is how federal workers earn their living and justify their existence.

Step 1. Find out where she lives.
Step 2. Place a paper bag containing dog shite inside on her front porch, and light said bag on fire.
Step 3. ?????
Step 4. Profit

I did that in my official complaint. Emphasized that it created a hostile work environment, was divisive and even bordering on harassment.

My work environment is unique in that she essentially has a supervisor title but not the typical supervisor power. She is a backup supervisor but can not discipline employees at all. The worst she could do would be to give an employee she doesn't like a bad work assignment.

Yep.

If you get even an iota of a feeling that the individual in question would go that route if they thought it was inappropriate, then you absolutely should use every weapon at your disposal.

It is in your best interest to use tools that would be used against you in a heart beat.

You said earlier that it wasn't directed at anyone in particular.

Also, sounds like she was outnumbered by folks with differing opinions. Should she feel attacked?

Scruffy I like your idea of going to the EEOC. I think I'll pass on that for now but I am going to start keeping records of any transgressions she makes.

If she continues with political comments I will notate those as well to start making a case to the EEOC.

With that said, I don't know if I trust corporate HR to actually do anything.

You actually think HR at a large corporation (any corporation) is going to punish someone for dissing Trump? Hell, she'll get a promotion and a raise.

Your supervisor is a woman? I’d quit just for that. Or put it in her arse to establish dominance.

It doesn't have to be directed at a particular person to be hostile work environment. It just has to make you feel like you are unwelcome and unwanted which it did make me feel. It also made me feel that she could potentially discriminate against Trump supporters if she know you're a Trump supporter. She can't discipline but she could give out bad work assignments.

Two people did stand up to her but the other 5 people were openly defending her. She was the one attacking.

Head down, mouth shut is the only answer.

I the same issue at my job. I'm pretty much the sole conservative in a sea of progressives.

I just keep my head down and smile when they start with the TDS.

I figure when I'm ready to leave here, I'll just tell them I voted and will vote for Trump and I'll be laid off within the week. Hopefully with a decent severance.

People like you and her are the reason conversations with my coworkers never get deeper than the proverbial "did you see the game last night?"

Y'all are both snowflake pussies

What do you expect me to do? The employer I work for is the largest employer in my state, never mind my city. I've already said there is very little chance that I would find this type of job at a comparable salary. I would either have to take a pay cut or move to another state. I might do that eventually but I don't want to do that at this point.
