It's wade fishing for me too. Big trout on topwaters and plugs is something I will always chase.
Fly fishing comes in close second. All types of fly fishing. Bonefish on the flats. Jacks and reds in the marsh. down to brook trout in high stream on a mini weight.

A good dove field on a cool clear fall afternoon when the birds are hell bent on coming in.
1A would be making the perfect cast with a sacalait jig under a cork, popping it next to cover, and seeing the cork float up, then get dragged under. Love catching slabs like that

Currently- Spending the day on the river catching bass. The boy or the Mrs with me is always fun, but I'll slip off by myself some days too. Rarely see another person for 4-6 hours. When the conditions are right, 25-30 bass isn't a stretch.
Years ago- There was nothing like cracking Pensacola Pass at sunrise heading off shore for the day, Cobia, Snapper, Marlin, Kings...didn't matter what we were fishing for, watching the sun come up with the anticipation of the day ahead was better than Christmas morning to me.

Deer hunting.
Love to hunt out West.
Enjoy fly fishing when I can go with my son. That’s his passion. It’s a lot of fun to watch him run a fly rod. He’s really good at it.

Offshore fishing. There’s nothing like hooking into a fish that’s bigger than me and the fight that ensues. Nothing in the world like it. Being out on the open blue water with nothing else in sight and coming back in at night with the stars shining bright and the lights on the ships going in and out is awesome.

The ear to ear grin of my five year old holding up a stringer of crappie.
Much credit to this board for teaching me how to catch them two years ago.

Honestly, all of it, like many my job and the last 6 months or so have been stressful, so being outdoors in any capacity is my way to sort of reset and refocus on the things that are important, spending quality time with great friends and family. The fishing or hunting might not always yield the results we want but the quality time is irreplaceable.
For me nothing compares to watching the world wake up and come alive as the sun rises, whether that be slipping quietly through the marsh in my kayak, riding down the Mississippi to go fish offshore, sitting in a stand on a crisp chilly morning, or watching the sun come up camping in the mountains. That’s the thing that always makes me appreciate the day and the opportunities before me.
1b) cruising in from an offshore fishing trip with a box full of fish, the music too loud, and beers flowing.

Hiking. Particularly in high alpine areas. Tough hobby when I live in Louisiana.

Whitewater canoeing in any shape, form, or fashion.
Whether it's play boating, surfing, racing, in steep creeks, to box canyons, and high volume floods. In most any vertical realm. Been on well over a thousand trips in at least 25 states, from Canada, to Mexico, and a couple parts of the Alps. First descents hold a special and dear place in my heart. As well as playing lead boat to a crack group of kayakers. The comradeship of like minds in action is as intense as the rush of the water. Where your bud would put his life on the line for you, as readily as you would and had for him.
Use to hunt until I found this and then I couldn't sit still any longer, not when I could go run and play (out loud). Funny thing was then you really started seeing the wildlife.

Ice fishing for walleyes.
We used to have a fish house big enough to sleep in we'd drag out on the ice at the start of the season. Inside there was a hole in each corner plus one on each side in the middle. Then we rigged the lines with a simple relay to set off a buzzer whn they pulled the line out. In the meantime we'd play cards, drink, eat and sleep.
Even if you fished on the ice there could be a social aspect of BS'ing with the people around you while your rig was on a tip up. Really more fun than you shoud be allowed to have.

My passions follow the seasons. Having a turkey out in front of you strutting and gobbling is something every prison should experience. It used to be offshore fishing, had a boat at Venice, and almost every trip out, I saw something I’ve never seen before. A beautiful afternoon in a good stand for deer really rates up there also. In the summertime I love to sit downstairs in the evening and listen to the whippoorwills. I used to bass fish exclusively, however now I love crappie fishing with ultralight tackle.

Live for duck season. But as I age I find myself going back to where I started. Perch on ultralights and chasing squirrels. Just being out there watching sunrise and everything thing wake up never gets old.

Only thing that trumps shooting a longbeard to me is having my children shoot them from my lap. It’s the single greatest feeling I’ve ever had aside from their births.

Fly fishing (trout). Peaceful, relaxing, and challenging all at the same time. I love it.
