Yep. My grandpa's old Winchester 22 competition target rifle from the 50's.
House got broken into in college, they stole it. All the guys got caught, arrested, etc. I think they dumped it. Police called and said a homeowner called and reported it was just in their front yard when they were going to work that morning.

I’ve had guns stolen out of my truck twice. The first time they caught the dude in Texas the next morning. He still had my Ruger 22/45 but had fenced my Beretta Brigadier. Couldn’t come up with my serial to get the Ruger back from Texas.
Four years later a kid carried my Beretta to pre-school and it was found at nap time. It made the news and I saw it and knew it was mine. Called the police chief and had it back by 3pm.
Second time they stole mine out of my truck and a neighbors as well. He was caught before he could fence and I got them all back.

yes 2 shotguns both were not in the condition they were stolen in and barrels were slightly sawed off.
funny part is the guys caught with them were caught hunting at night had drugs, convicted felons, stolen guns - the only charges that weren't plead down were the wildlife violations.

A close relative had his returned after 3 years when his stolen pistol was used in a robbery and recovered with the perp. Good news.
Currently, one of my son’s had his pistol stolen when he and a friend went to a bar one night. Upon returning to his friend’s Jeep Trackhawk, all they found was broken glass and an empty parking space. The Jeep was recovered 3 days later. The pistol was not in it.
This was 2 years go and nothing has been recovered yet per local LEA.

Never had a gun stolen, but I never kept one in my car.
In high school I had a Columbia 10 speed stolen from my parents carport during the middle of the day. Got a call from the cops around 8 pm that night saying they found it in Minden. A kid who was being taken to LTI escaped, saw it while running away, and rode it 60 miles down a couple of two lane highways. I almost felt like the kid had earned it riding that far.

it took 8 years and constant pressure from a friend with some connections

Sheriff office still calls every 6 months asking if I found them.
I found this to be funny as hell, for some reason!

your friend doesn't seem to have many "connections" if it took 8 years.
Without him I would of never of seen that gun again

Has 6 stolen back early 2000's they recovered them a week later as evidence in a case. I hounded them for 3-4 months about it. Finally called a lawyer and he had my guns at his office the next week for me to pick up. They took pics, videos and cataloged the gun evidence and released it to me. Just needed some legal heat on them to get off there arse and do the right thing.

I got one back. It took 4 years.
They don’t necessarily contact you to let you know that you can have it back.
You have to call them regularly.
Log your calls and take notes.
Learn the case number.

I keep a Glock in my truck.
Came back from fishing around sunset and unhooked boat. I knew I would be leaving again in about 2 hours, so I left my truck unlocked with keys inside. Went take a dump and showered. Then sat in my recliner and watched a little TV. Went to leave again, opened door to truck to find my center console was opened and my gun was gone. Nothing else was missing. Contemplated if I should call the sheriff's office or not to report the theft (thinking I'd never see that gun again). Eventually called. A sheriff's deputy shows up and takes report. I had serial number and all for him. He then says, " I know who has your gun!". I asked who? He says "3 black yutes" He then tells me that an hour before a guy that lives about a mile away called to report that he caught 3 black yutes in his shed. he ran them off. He gave a good description. This was about 8:00pm. Deputy says he'll keep me informed. I thought I'd never see that gun again. I go to bed and at exactly 12 midnight someone is beating on the door. Thought it was my son and that he locked himself out. Opened the door and it was the sheriff's deputy saying he had something for me. It was my gun. Not a scratch. Deputy told me they found the 3 black yutes on the street in town. They confronted the yutes. The yutes ran. Deputy saw them toss the gun in someones yard.
I was shocked and surprised that I actually got the gun back. And so quickly. I was even more shocked that I or my wife never heard a sound when the yutes were stealing the gun.
Next day I tried to open and close my truck without make a sound. And yes you absolutely can do it without making any noise whatsoever. I also called the sheriff's office and commended the deputy by name for a job well done.
I was incredibly lucky that night.

Long story short had a handgun stolen from my truck then subsequently recovered by BRSO ~1.5 years ago.
The detective that let me know they had found my gun told me it may be a while before I get it back; after case, appeals, etc. are all closed…
Curious if any of yall had been through this before?
Am I gonna get that gun back or does that detective have a new plinking toy and I should consider replacing it?
Had one stolen out my vehicle in Colorado. Reported it immediately and police recovered it within 15 hours in the middle of being used in a crime. I was expecting years of waiting but I got it back in 11 months. Much quicker than I expected. Was funny when I got it back they had the case number written on the slide and I debated on whether to keep it like that or not. Decided to wipe it clean and use it to this day.
