buddies dad had an Allison that would run up in the 90's. Scared the shite out of me every time I rode in it. I get the appeal of it, but it aint for me. Yall are wild.
I like deep hull speedboats/cigarette boats. They’re fast but stable and fun as hell to drive. frick those light arse Allison boats or anything similar. Hit a wake wrong and you’re fricked

I use to be but I'm too fat and old now. First boat was a 340v Ranger with a hopped up 150 crossflow that was a chinewalking death trap that ran low 70's. Traded the hull for an 18' Shadow that I ran with the 150, then a 200. It was a high 70's boat but I didn't know how to set one up back then. Sold that and eventually ended up with a 200VT Shadow with a 225 Yamaha Excel that would run 80. It was a Corbin KY boat so it was heavier than the earlier TN boats. Sold it and bought it back and put an 03 Rude 225 on it and the motor was way too heavy making it into a death trap. Sold that hull and put my Rude on a 201 Pro Stratos. My user name hints to my love of the old Shadow boats, but these days I just want a smooth dry ride.

Typical year in the Corpus Christi area there will be a go fast fishing boat {50-70} flip killing the occupants. Operators could be more considerate by wearing life preservers that will not tear off. Makes locating the bodies easier.

quote:My P2 is not set up right. I feel it lean to my side coming off plane. I could fill the kicker tank on the left(10 gallons) to help, but I am bout to lose the weight of lead acid on my side with a couple of lithium trolling motor batteries, so I am waiting to see what happens.
and proper weight distribution goes a long way to help
I also kinda regret going with the Hamby's on my bow. Those things are heavy, and BassCats need all the lift you can supply.

It takes a while to get a hold on chine walk, but a good setup, and proper weight distribution goes a long way to help.
I've owned one Allison -- took me a while to be able to control it at full throttle.
I'm now in my third Bullet (my first 21' Bullet). I've never had any issues with chine walking in the Bullets - maybe that's "carryover" experience from owning the Allison, or more likely it's because the Bullets are designed differently.
When I first bought my current boat I ran it full throttle with a couple of props to get a good combination of hole shot, bow lift and speed. Top speed with the prop I chose (Bravo 1) is 83, which is right at blowout speed with a Torquemaster lower unit - but still zero chine walk.
Haven't had any need to run it at full throttle since then - the Spillway doesn't have very many long, straight channels (excluding the ICWW), and I no longer tournament fish.

quote:Never seen a discussion of it. It's not important enough for me to remove it. I really need to get someone to video me running it because with the new 4 strokes, I have zero visual feel for trim. The two strokes were easy.
Are those things removable ?

My dad and his friends would build trick skis and flat boats in my grandfathers shop.
Best story was them shooting around the LSU lakes on a pretty much a piece of plywood and a bulkhead for a small outboard. One of my dad's friends was hauling arse and the "boat" went cockeyed and then exploded into pieces. Don't know if it was my dad or another friend but they immediately dove into the lake and ended up being the only person hurt that day form hitting his head on the bottom.

Link to these go fast boats flipping in Corpus every year? I know of one which was a rather high profile wreck a couple years back that was operator error, neither occupant died in that one. I can link dozens of cases of folks that didn't survive going out in conditions they should have never been in with boats that couldn't do 40 mph, nearly 100% of the time they didn't have pfds.

I don’t like over 20hp speed
Me too. I like outboards I can install/uninstall myself and with gas being about $7.25 a gallon, I like outboards that will get me where I need to go without burning a ton of fuel. 50HP works great for me.

Fast in a boat definitely has different meanings depending on boat. 65mph chine walking in a 16-17ft boat down a skinny bayou will make you shite your pants. 80mph in a 21ft skeeter fx in an open lake behind a console you could let the steering wheel go

I hit 8.6mph with my new suzi 2.5hp on an empty 1436. It'll straight blow a lance cracker wrapper off the bench.

Seems like it'd be hard to beat a Allison XB-2002 with a Merc 2.5 EFI...
