I’m betting your dad knew every nook of that muddy water.

You can say that again.

I'll throw this last couple tidbits out there.
Grew up on a farm in Ohio. His Pop would tell him as a kid (not dirt poor but in the ballpark) that if he was handing him three.22 rounds he better come back with three groundhogs. Dad never missed the mark. Probably explains why he made the All-Army rifle team every year he tried before Nam. A couple 600 yd and one 1,000 yd wins at Quantico and Camp Perry....iron sights (service rifle- no scope)
Still haven't ever heard of a better tournament sack off of Eufaula than the one he weighed in to win an MBAA (Redman?) State championship in mid August (late 80's,90'?)
7 fish limit back then....he weighed 6 that went just over 43 lbs.
Number 7 broke off at the boat and Pops said it was a 10 plus.....easily.

Gonna miss hearing him call for the net in that humble, low voice of his.

But I hear rumors that the lakes "up there" are stocked daily with 10-lbers. ;)

I’ve been where you are in the past few years. I wish I’d known him. This whole bottle of bourbon is for him and you.

God bless you and him. You had a good one.

So sorry for your loss Timbo. I've scoured damn near every inch of Eufaula with my pops as well. Dad confirmed that Ft Benning BC had some serious "sticks" back in the day, he was In Dolphin bass club back in 70's. The damned stories they had about club fish offs and tournaments were hilarious. Godspeed to your Pops and I'll be sure to pour one out for him next time I'm down there on the pond. Hold on to the memories bro and WDE.

Really sorry for your loss. He looks an sounds like a great guy. My dad drives me nuts some days and he's across the country half the year, I still don't know what I'd do without him on the other end of the phone.

I will have a coffee for your pops this AM, may he rest in peace.

Yes some serious sticks in both Dolphin and Ga/Ala Bass clubs in their heydays.

We buried Pops yesterday. Cut some onions during the playing of “Taps” but it was a beautiful send off. Driving out of the cemetary in midafternoon a doe pops out of the bushes and starts feeding 5 yds from the road out.
I told mom it was a sign as she had come to tell us that Pops was in good hands amongst the forest inhabitants. ;)

Mom left it to me to add the final inscription on Pops tombstone. I’ll post a pic of it as soon as it’s placed. I think the OB will get a kick out of it. ;)
