If I am somewhere with a lot of hogs, I'll usually walk in with a round in.

Won't let son do it because his rifle is hammer fired. Don't need him bumping into a tree and blowing my head off

Don't forget, it is popular opinion on this board to leave your rifle loaded all deer season. All year round for some people.

Deer rifle? No.

But every handgun/ar/ak/and high capacity shotgun is loaded.

Gun safety NEEDS only one rule: DON'T POINT THE GUN AT ANYTHING YOU AREN'T WILLING TO KILL/DESTROY/LOSE.

That's all well and good until you slip and fall.

Do you live in Mogadishu?

Not bagging on you. I have a loaded pistol pointed at my twig n berries right now. Its just funny what logic or lack of people apply to firearms.

This seems like a pain in the arse. I keep a couple mags loaded for AR’s but I couldn’t image having 30 to 40 guns loaded and moving them in and out of my safe. It’s pretty packed in my safe and I often have to move things around to just get to what I want to use.

When I had a hidden gun room I had a book case with a push button fob locked inside of a fake book. I pushed it and it unlocked the bookcase. I kept a loaded AR and loaded home defense shotgun on some gallowtech on the wall.

My 357 stays loaded on my waist when walking in the woods in the summer. But again, that’s what it’s for.

Snakes and hogs

The moment I step foot back into the campsite it’s unloaded

Maybe that will curtail some of this nonsense.

And you wear orange and walk out with a flashlight on because there could be trespassers. Not saying anything specific about this shooting, but I know hunters who don’t wear orange because they know where everyone is supposed to be hunting.
I’ve seen fellow hunters at the stores. I walk in and out like I’m in a second line

If I had a trumpet I’d blow it

Why do you need loaded guns in the house

Same reason you need a loaded gun when you go deer hunting…to kill…

Same reason you have a loaded gun when on watch in a foxhole…to kill

A defensive gun in a home that isn’t loaded is like a screen door for a submarine.

And that is why when building the new home I insisted that the "study" have all of it's windows removed. The blanket closet moved into the laundry room. And the walls full of rebar/insulation, and expanded metal under the sheetrock.

The man cave is the gun room. It's deadbolted.

The only things that are in a safe are the things that aren't replaceable.

One thing I am trying to make is lock for a gun that incorporates a captains of crush grip trainer as the latch. By the time the boy is old enough to squeeze it, he'll be old enough to be trusted.

Update:

No Trespassing. Both hunters had permission but neither knew the other were going to be there. Neither wearing orange. Shooter had license but no tags on him. Shot him with 20 gauge buckshot so must have been pretty close.

You and all who you associate with are immune to gravity and Murphy?

Elite athletes trip and fall in open fields of manicured grass all the time. Sometimes they have career ending injuries from it. I doubt you are an elite athlete and I doubt everywhere you handle loaded guns is as uncluttered as a sports field.

Ive had a true AD from a failed trigger mechanism so maybe I am more cynical than most. IMO, the vast majority of people who have loaded guns in their homes are far to confident in themselves and far to lackadaisical in their handling of firearms. Nobody who was so serious about safety would have a loaded gun in their house. It would either be stored in a secure manner where it will be slow to deploy, or it would be unloaded.

im a keep gun unloaded guy. But I also believe that my muzzle discipline would keep me and others safe no matter the terrain. I may fall on my nose. But my gun will be pointed in a safe direction when I hit

This is half the reason it is so critical to have a centralized method of "checking in" for every property.

That was a shotgun duck hunting

Dog jumped out back of the buggy and made gun go off
Hit him in leg

When I was younger I had zero worries. My gun stayed loaded all hunting season. What good is an unloaded gun? I never shot anybody. I was “safe”.

Probably 10 years ago I bought myself a 357. I read to dry fire it to make it smoother. I’m full of beer late one night dry firing away in my camper. It’s just me and my now gone dog. Next thing I know a damn bomb goes off. I shot a hole through the camper door. Thank the lord there was no one there. The bullet went straight around our fire ring. It scared the ever living shite out of me. I could have killed someone. I could have killed my dog. I could have killed myself. A 357 going off in a camper will wake you up quick. I can’t believe I have any hearing. A lesson learned the easy way.

I now have young kids. All of my guns are locked away in the house. I have a finger print safe next to the bed with two loaded pistols. I do leave guns in my truck during the days we are hunting. They are not loaded. The are a rack away from being ready to go though.

I also have a hyper catahoula that goes with me everywhere. The dog jumping on the gun and shooting the football player resonates as well.

Having a 6 and 2 year old around it’s not worth the risk. They both know not to touch guns without me. We were all dumbass kids at one point though. At least I was.
