Its there a potential tolerance stacking issue with 7mm PRC reamers vs ammo? I remember reading somewhere about people having pressure problems with some of them due to some kind of tolerance thing. There was a name for it i can't recall. Know about that?

But is it really any better than the timed tested 7mm magnum???? Or are these “new” calibers a smoke and mirror game to sell more guns, etc? I know we can get into BC and what not but that stuff really has no bearing on the average Hunter. Long range precision shooting out to 1000 yards - maybe? Call me old fashioned but I like the “traditional” cartridges.

30-06 everyone has ammo and its easy to get.
Henry lever action. 45-70 will drop anything in North America
Henry lever action in 357mag. 38 for shooting targets and practice. 357Mag is a brutal round in capable hands can drop most North American game

How in the world did thousands upon thousands of hunters kill hundreds of thousands of deer for well over a hundred years, without a can ??????
What did you say, all those thousands and thousands of hunter can't hear you because they didn't have a can....
Such an idiotic take.

See if the Christensen will group well. Lots of reports of rifle needing to be sent back before it will shoot well.
Supposedly, new management or ownership (I can't remember which) has address/is addressing this and it's better.
I'd still lean to a Bergera over a Christensen though...

All the new rounds to sell more guns - BLA BLA BLA. Give me a tried true cool round like the 25.06 or 257W Mag. One of these would be a great addition to your lineup.
What if Roy Weatherby had said this?
"Why the hell do I need anything other than a .30-06? It will take anything in north america???"
Had he, our hobby would be a lot less fun...

Probably because the SAAMI spec for 7 PRC chamber is already at match grade and as such the allowable variation for OEM's and rifle builders is lower. I picked up a box of Hornady 180gr ELD-M to use for setting up dies, etc. if/when I get to an actual rifle and the cartridges I measure against the published SAAMI spec is showing very little room for error. I think most magnum rifle cartridges have a tendency to be spikey in the pressure department and more so for the overbore ones.

on sale at EuroOptic right now. I have the CZ 557, but could use another. I got a 3/4" group this weekend with 130gr Bergers running 2900 fps...whitetail death laser. Cant wait for our two weeks of DMAP to start next week.

I agree however I think the 257 is a unique cartridge that has been around a long time. It’s all the PRC rounds or the 7mm Western that I don’t really “get” in regards to advancement in the industry.

Something fast like 25-06 or 224 Valkyrie.

Back to my point, what did the .300 win mag improve upon over the .300 wby mag? The .300 win mag came 20yrs after the Weatherby.
7mm rem mag vs 7mm wby mag?
.308 vs .30-06?
Then we can go down all the .308 based and .30-06?
Every cartridge is designed to sell more ammo.

It’s for people who enjoy messing with guns and squeezing the last few percentage points of efficiency or performance out of them. No one anywhere has ever said you need a 7 PRC to kill a 120 lb whitetail. Modern cartridge design is all about getting tiny little groups on paper, but marketing teams have discovered that a lot of hunters think the only reason they can’t get groups like that is the gun, ammo, cartridge, etc. not because they yank the everliving shite out of their 7lb 300 win mag’s trigger.

Duck hammer, you’re confusing your 6.5 with your 257 WBY

Roy Weatherby was 50 years ahead of his time.
The 264 WIN mag was also 50 years ahead of his time.

And rifles.
If we were all still shooting pawpaws model 70 .30-06 and his ol Western ammo stash he bought in 1958, winchester would have gone out of business more times than they already did.
And none of us would have killed any less deer. But that's no fun.

The 6.5x55 was 120 years ahead of it's time
The win mags, the WSMs, the RUMs, and now the backcountry mark some pretty substantial performance leaps of some kind. We've been pretty stale since cannon powder hit the civilian market.

Really, we don’t.
We really didn’t need anything more than the 7x57 Mauser cartridge for anything non dangerous game.
