Never. I clean the guns I hunt with when they get dirty or wet.
Once I do a break in and clean them I typically buy a new one before I need to clean one

Never for the ones I don’t use.
My benelli gets a few drops of CLP on the bolt to keep it running smoothly and a couple drops on the choke tube threads to keep them from seizing up. Occasionally I’ll run a bore snake down the barrel.
My hunting rifle will get the bore cleaned every couple years. Removing the copper from the rifling makes it not shoot as accurately. I was told it takes at least 9 shots to get the copper back into the grooves and I just don’t really feel like shooting 9-10 rounds of 28 nosler just to get my gun back accurate.

Most of my guns I clean before returning to the safe. However I have a few hand me downs that are fairly old and I try and wipe them down every 6-12 months and check them for rust.
Typically they are fine in the safe just always try to be sure.

Annually, I have an extensive collection. Especially older wood models. I usually pick one of those cold, rainy after season weekends and go thru the guns I used that season with a complete breakdown, hot water bath if needed and lube and wipe down for next season. The other two safes have humidifiers and temp control so ill go thru and wipe down each one (even the best safes they will get dusty dingy over time). Maybe a light oil wipe if they look dried out. check to make sure humidity and temp are spot on and that's about it.

I wipe the long guns down every year or so. I'll run a bore snake through the ones I use after season is done. Safe handguns get the similar treatment. Carry gun gets cleaned/lubed monthly.
I've had an 870 for 19 years and I don't think I've ever really cleaned it. I usually hose it down with rem oil and leave it upside down in a corner for a few hours to drain. I bet the bore looks like this guy.

If I handle them, I’ll wipe them down.
The only thing that doesn’t get shot is the really old blackpowders. If something has sat in the back for a while, I’ll typically try and shoot it when I get bored, so it’ll get cleaned again after that.

For the ones I never shoot I oil the shite out of them and then they stay in the safe “wet.” I do have to clean them up some before I do end up using them though just because there is so much oil.

quote:I had a habit of cleaning everything annually, even the milsurps I don't shoot much or at all. However, since I've never had an issue with rust, I've started pushing that to 2-3 years, which will also include some extra coats of tung oil for the stocks (Garands, M1 carbine, etc.). The ones I shoot I clean afterward every time.

When I get bored. It's been four or five years. Kid runs me ragged.
