Y'all think I should put a scope on this thing?
I'd like to find the old school "look under" scope rings that still allow you to use the iron sights if needed...
According to their website a serial number starting with 103-XXXX indicates it was manufactured in 1982.

Congrats on the purchase Clyde
I like mine with the see through scope rings, especially for moving targets

Any recommendation? What brand are your rings?

Clyde, I couldn’t tell you. They were installed with the little Bushnell scope in early 80’s. I’ll look and see if I can find any identifying marks on the rings

My uncle has see through rings, and that’s the gun that led me to buy one. I ended up putting a 1.5-4x20 leupold on it though with low mount rings on it. It fits the eye better and with the pig plex reticle I feel can shoot anything from 20 yards to 200 yards comfortably.

I have a Leupold VX-3 2.5-8x36 on mine. It's a great scope for that gun. I don't have see through rings and if I remember correctly I had to special order a base/mount for it for some reason.

No idea on price, but that was what my son started with and killed his first few deer. He's the 4th generation to hunt with it. Cool gun and great for a young hunter especially - pretty limited on range.

I brought it with that in mind. Hopefully my son will kill a deer with it.
The main box stand I hunt has 100 yd. lane in front with a feeder at 75 yds and a second lane to my left you can see about 150 yds but most deer cross about half way or 75 yds.
It's almost a perfect set up for that gun and a right handed shooter.

Weaver rings chart
This chart shows you need #47 and #68

I found these on ebay for mine

I got a hit for "ironsighter"'s on ebay as well but it was sold out. So I googled them and every thing is out of stock or back ordered.
I like those because they screw in flush as opposed to the weaver bases linked above your post.
I think the weaver bases may be my only option in which case you go with regular scope rings.
Otherwise, I have to search "ironsighter 735" every day and hope one pops up on ebay. I've got time though...

My uncle had an old 742 with a flip over scope mount.

Yep! Haha. It only took about a week for me to find these, but that could've been luck too

An old guy I hunted with had the same set up. A deer would hit the cutover and he'd flip that scope over and start sending them.

I think CT needs to put a vintage Weaver K4 on his .44.

That rifle was a family favorite and I have two of them at the moment.
The best scope was an old 1 3/4 to 5 times Redfield. Someone put a 3X9 on one, but that was not a good choice - slow to get onto moving game and led you to take distant shots that the gun does poorly.
We mostly used these to hunt hogs in swamp thickets from climbing stands. The low power let you get onto a moving target quickly while the 5 power was good for looking up close at times without over extending the range that this gun will shoot well.
And mine does have see through mounts which are okay, but I normally just stay with the lowest scope setting.
Mine was an older model and required the heaviest bullets to cycle reliably.

I have one. It’s a good rifle for heavy brush. Also have a ww2 carbine.
