I'd just get a Sedona, but it also don't see the difference between $50 and $150 on spinning gear

I Have the battle 2000 with 15# braid, best all around reel. I use it for specks, reds, and bass.

Cabelas was running a clearance on the Quantum Energy PTi for $69 (normally $139)

bought it and waiting on it to get to store now.

Believe it's basically the same as their Smoke which is a great reel.

I like shimano Stradic but that's out of your budget. I've also had good luck with Shimano Sahara and that's in your budget.

Symetre reels from Shimano are all I use. 2500/3500 models are perfect.

What advantage is gained spending more than $50 or so on a spinning reel for freshwater/inshore? I know the advantages on nicer reels for baitcasters but I just don't see it on spinning gear. Smoother reeling?

I bought two shimano sustains on a pricing error. I don't know if it's worth $340, but it's pretty damn nice. You notice the better casting because of the spool lip. It's got a really smooth drag. It's extremely smooth to reel. And there is no play in the movement. Is it worth spending that much money for me.....no, but I got them for $99 . I would be interested in the Van Staal reels as they are supposed to be good quality and indestructible, but at $700 for a reel, I'm not that interested.

Since the casting is just the line unwinding itself from the spool vs a spool spinning like a baitcaster, I just don't see how another $100 is worth anything.

I'm not saying it's worth the extra $100, but they design the lip of the spool to let the line come off easier. It's definitely not a $100 upgrade, but I can tell the difference from some really cheap reels. I've got three sienna's to throw in the boat for my wife and guests to use, and I've cast both on the same rod. There's a difference.... not huge, but there's a difference.

More expensive reels come with more bearings, and better bearings and they have better drag systems. Better quality components all around.

I think the difference is that with a baitcast, you can tell the difference in money right away. But with spincast, the difference doesn't show up until down the road. They all are smooth at first... If you go pick up a well used $50 reel and a well used $200 reel, the difference in quality will show.

I guess you're right. I don't mind wearing out a sienna or optix in a 4 or 5 years and getting a new one. But 85% of my fishing is done with baitcasters. My ultralight spinning reels are used more than anything, and they don't need to cast or reel very much, more of a keep line out and swing type of deal.

Wife has a few siennas and a stradic, i have battles and a sargus. she abuses the crap out of her lines, boat rash from hell, but they still get the job done.
made the mistake of putting a battle on an okuma rod when i was younger. it shakes so bad when reeling, it makes my wrist hurt.

Get the shimano I am a charter boat captain out of grand isle. I brought an Okuma rep out and Broke 3 reels out the box on the first trip. I was given 3 more of there most expensive spinning reels and they were all broke In less than 2 months. Okuma didn't warranty any of them. I have the same shimano reels for ten years and they still work.
OKUMA is GARBAGE
